Job summary

Meridia Recruitment Solutions, working with the Town of Antigonish, seeks a Machine Operator/Labourer for the Public Works Department in Antigonish, NS. The role supports essential municipal services through heavy equipment operation and infrastructure maintenance.

Responsibilities include snow and ice control, hydrant and sewer maintenance, street repairs, and documentation. Candidates must have a valid NS Class 3 driver’s license and be able to standby for emergencies.

Qualifications

• Experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and other fleet equipment.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate Public Works equipment (backhoes, mini excavators, wheel loaders, salt trucks, street sweepers, sidewalk plows).
• Perform municipal system operations and equipment maintenance.
• Complete municipal mainline and service lateral repairs.
• Assist with hydrant and water valve maintenance and sewer infrastructure work.
• Perform street repairs, sidewalk, curb, and gutter repairs; support snow and ice control.
• Maintain job records and documentation for assigned work.
• Perform minor shop repairs and routine equipment maintenance.
• Ensure traffic control signage and safety measures at sites.
• Adhere to Provincial Occupational Health and Safety rules and environmental requirements.
