Job summary

Kernaghan Adjusters in Victoria, BC is seeking an experienced all-lines adjuster committed to exceptional service. The role reports to the VP of BC Operations and involves investigating claims, creating scopes, interviewing claimants, and negotiating settlements.

Candidates should have at least one year of property claims experience, a Level 1/2 license or eligibility, and CIP progress. The successful candidate will work in a high-pressure environment, maintain confidentiality, and use MS Office

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of adjusting experience.
  • Experience handling property claims.
  • Insurance License Level 1 or 2 or eligibility to obtain.
  • CIP Designation or working towards CIP.
  • Strong mathematical, statistical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office and claims software.
  • Ability to work independently and discreetly.

Responsibilities

  • Attend or investigate claims to assess damages and create scopes of repair.
  • Interview claimants and witnesses and create scene diagrams.
  • Review policy wordings to determine coverage and communicate findings.
  • Review professional reports (engineering, accounting, legal, building) related to the claim.
  • Authorize or deny coverage based on findings.
  • Negotiate settlements with insureds and claimants.
  • Ensure claims are processed per statutory requirements.

Job description

The successful candidate is an experienced all-lines adjuster who is committed to providing exceptional customer service. They will have superior interpersonal, team building and strong organizational skills with a commitment to quality and integrity. They will have the ability to work well independently.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Reporting to the VP of BC Operations
  • Attending or investigating claims on behalf of our principals to: assess damages, create scopes of repair, interview claimants and witnesses and create scene diagrams
  • Reviewing policy wordings to determine coverage
  • Communicating findings of investigations in a detailed report format
  • Reviewing professional reports related to the claim; such as, engineering, accounting, legal or building consultant
  • Authorizing or denying coverage based on findings and instructions received from our principals
  • Negotiating settlements with insureds and/or claimants based on instructions received from our principals
  • Ensuring that claims are processed in accordance with statutory requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Minimum one year of adjusting experience
  • Have experience in handling property claims
  • Insurance Adjuster Level 1 or 2 License or meet requirements to obtain a Level 1 or 2 license
  • CIP Designation, or working towards CIP Designation
  • Outstanding mathematical, statistical, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and OneNote
  • Experience and ability to navigate a claims management system
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise discretion
  • The ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment
