Pinchin is seeking a Building Science Technologist to join our Building Science and Sustainability team in one of our GTA or Peterborough, ON offices. The role reports to the Operations Manager.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will bring a strong foundational understanding of building systems, including architectural features such as structural components, building envelopes, mechanical and electrical systems, roofing, interior elements, and site features.

Your Role and Action

  • Conduct Building and Property Condition Assessments for due diligence and capital planning purposes in accordance with ASTM standards, UniFormat, and best construction practices.
  • Review existing buildings and structures, including roofing, exterior cladding, balconies, fenestrations, and parking garages, to identify design and remedial work options.
  • Conduct invasive building assessments and testing, such as roof cut tests, water testing, and leak investigations.
  • Complete quantity take-offs, measurements, and field data collection throughout the course of a project.
  • Assist with the development of designs, specifications, and restoration solutions for building science projects.
  • Carry out construction reviews to confirm quality standards, design requirements, and project specifications are met.
  • Prepare written reports, summarize findings, interpret field data, and create detailed AutoCAD drawings as required.
  • Support project coordination, including financial tracking, QA/QC protocols, health and safety requirements, and quality control within the team.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring to Pinchin

  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Building Science, Architecture, or a related science discipline
  • Working knowledge of Building Condition Assessments, including familiarity with ASTM E2018 – Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments
  • General understanding of building construction, maintenance practices, HVAC systems, and building envelope assemblies
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and reports
  • Experience or familiarity with technical report writing; proficiency with AutoCAD, UniFormat, and asset management software is considered an asset
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including safely transporting ladders, tools, and PPE, with availability to travel and a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle (expenses reimbursed)
