Job summary

Pinchin in Mississauga, ON is hiring a Building Science Technologist/Senior Building Science Technologist to join our Building Science team. The successful candidate will assess building systems, prepare restorations and AutoCAD drawings, and support project delivery.

We value technical reporting, knowledge of building envelopes, and the ability to travel as needed. The role reports to the Operations Manager and offers competitive compensation and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in architectural technology, civil engineering tech, construction tech, architecture, or building science.
  • Knowledge of building envelope assemblies is required.
  • Experience writing technical reports is required.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Must be able to read technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of existing buildings and structures to determine design and remedial options.
  • Conduct invasive building assessments and testing (e.g., roof cut tests, water/leak tests).
  • Carry out quantity take-offs and measurements over the course of a project.
  • Develop designs and specifications for restoration projects, including AutoCAD drawings.
  • Carry out construction reviews to ensure QA/QC and design requirements are met.
  • Prepare written reports of findings and interpret field data.
  • Coordinate with project finances and maintain safety protocols.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Pinchin is seeking a Building Science Technologist / Senior Building Science Technologist to join our Building Science team in Mississauga, ON. The role reports to the Operations Manager.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will bring a strong foundational understanding of building systems, including architectural features such as structural components, building envelopes, mechanical and electrical systems, roofing, interior elements, and site features.

Your Role and Action
  • Conduct assessments of existing buildings and structures (roof assemblies, exterior cladding assemblies, balcony assemblies, fenestrations, and parking garage structures) to determine design and remedial work options.
  • Conduct invasive building assessments and testing (ex. Roof cut tests, water / leak tests, etc.)
  • Carry out all necessary quantity take-offs and measurements over the course of a project.
  • Development of designs and specifications for restoration projects, including creating detailed AutoCAD drawings.
  • Carry out construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are achieved.
  • Prepare written reports of findings, summarizing, and interpreting the results of field data.
  • Financial involvement and coordination with project.
  • Maintain QA/QC protocols.
  • Maintain health and safety protocols as well as quality control within the group.
  • Perform any other job‑related duties that may be assigned.

  • Architectural Technician/Civil Engineering Technologist /Construction Technician/Science diploma, B.A. or B.Sc. in Architecture, B.Sc. in Building Science.
  • Knowledge of building envelope assemblies is required.
  • Experience writing technical reports is required.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Experience with building construction or maintenance preferred.
  • Must be able to read technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Level I drone license will be considered an asset.
  • Level I thermography will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Contract Administration will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and reports
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including safely transporting ladders, tools, and PPE, with availability to travel and a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle (expenses reimbursed).
