Job summary

Pinchin Ltd. in Kingston, Ontario, is seeking a Project Technologist – Hazardous Materials to support project teams and grow technical know-how in hazardous materials.

The role reports to the Operations Manager and offers a hybrid work model with a salary around CAD 55k. You will conduct site investigations, collect samples, supervise remediation activities, and prepare detailed reports to help clients manage hazardous materials safely.

Qualifications

• College diploma or higher in Environmental, Construction, Architectural Technology, or Engineering.
• Familiarity with building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Willingness to travel to client sites for short-term assignments.
• Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations for asbestos, mould, mercury, PCBs, lead and other hazardous materials.
• Collect and interpret building material samples and PCM asbestos air data.
• Perform field work, site visits, and supervise remediation activities.
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors on project activities.
• Prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations.
• Manage project time and support quality control.
• Liaise with clients and subcontractors to ensure safety and hygiene requirements.
• Develop and maintain positive client relationships.
• Support project teams with field documentation and coordination.

Pinchin is hiring a Project Technologist in Hazardous Materials in Kingston. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and is being filled as a new role.

Role Overview

As a Project Technologist in Hazardous Materials you will help create healthier environments for people who live, work and learn in them. Through site assessments, gathering accurate data, translating your findings into clear recommendations, and project support, your work will provide clients with the information they need to manage hazardous materials safely and make informed decisions. You will collaborate closely with colleagues and clients to understand their goals and deliver solutions that reflect quality, integrity, and care. This is meaningful work with real impact, and you will grow your skills while contributing to projects that make buildings and environments better.

Your Role and Action

• Conduct site investigations involving asbestos, mould, mercury, PCBs, lead, and other hazardous materials.
• Collect, interpret, and analyze building material and PCM asbestos air samples in relation to legislative requirements and industry guidelines.
• Perform field work, including site visits, supervision of remediation activities, and inspections of abatement contractors to verify proper completion of work.
• Coordinate and supervise sub-contractors on project activities.
• Prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations to address hazardous building material concerns.
• Manage project time effectively and support quality control within the group.
• Liaise with clients and sub-contractors to ensure health, safety, and hygiene requirements are met.
• Develop and maintain positive client relationships through responsive communication and service.
• Support project teams with accurate field documentation, technical insight, and day-to-day coordination.

What You’ll Bring to Pinchin

• College diploma in Environmental, Construction, Architectural Technology, or a Bachelor of Science, Applied Science, or Engineering, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with building systems, including structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Self-directed, mature, and able to work independently.
• Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to a personal vehicle.
• Availability to travel to client sites for short-term work-related assignments.
• Flexibility to work outside core business hours and on occasion weekends, as required.
