DMC Mining Services is one of North America's leading underground mining contractors, offering a range of services from shaft sinking to mine development and operation. We are seeking a dedicated Project Technician, based in Cadomin, Alberta, to work on a contract basis with a FIFO 14‑14 schedule.
Summary
The Project Technician will coordinate and deliver all technical services for the Project, providing functional support to the construction and operations teams. Responsibilities include ensuring engineering scope, drawings, specifications, and quality control materials are available to complete the project on time, to high quality, and within budget. The role also involves managing survey requirements, primary control management, setting out, development support, and equipment management.
Responsibilities
- Support the construction/operational team for surface and underground work, managing engineering design progression, survey requirements, and quality control during construction.
- Interface with mining crews and supervision to ensure accurate metrics are captured.
Engineering
- Recommend design or method improvements to enhance safety and productivity through engineering interface meetings and drawing reviews.
- Maintain site standards, specifications, and drawings to ensure compliance with industry and project‑specific regulations.
Procurement
- Work closely with the Project Manager/Superintendent to ensure all requirements for work execution are available and supported in a timely manner.
Construction
- Support writing of procedures and coordinate safe, high‑quality methodologies with operational/construction teams.
- Assist with technical issues and develop efficient, safe work procedures during construction/operations.
- Support quality and commissioning phases, managing quality packages and documentation.
- Submit daily shift reports based on collected data.
- Collect shift data; interface with mining crews and supervisors to ensure metrics are captured accurately.
Survey
- Oversee stock level management, line and grade setting out, and use of Leica TS16 and BLK laser scanning equipment.
- Place requisitions for required equipment and interface with vendors for third‑party survey support.
- Measure, record, and report mining advance on a shift‑by‑shift basis.
- Develop and review reports for discussion and interpretation of survey data.
- Monitor underground environments, including ventilation readings, concrete monitoring, and witnessed convergence.
- Set out new construction scopes and conduct as‑built surveys of completed scopes.
- Participate in active quality management, including concrete pre‑pour inspections, verticality surveys, and as‑built surveys.
Other
- Actively manage site safety.
- Provide input to weekly and monthly reports as required.
- Engage in personal development activities yearly.
- Mentor junior team members.
- Be available for overtime hours as required.
Qualifications
Experience
- Experience in the mining industry in a survey/technical role.
- On‑site experience in a construction/operational execution‑based role.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including client/contractor management.
- Surveying experience.
- Experience with schedule and budget oversight.
- Understanding of design engineering codes, technical standards, and regulations in the Canadian mining sector.
- Desirable: experience in start‑up projects and EPC projects.
Skills
- Ability to work closely with the site engineering team and interface with the Project Manager.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and self‑directed development.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to produce detailed inspection reports.
- Desirable: AutoCAD, Leica Cyclone, and drawing generation experience.

- Position is a filling of an existing vacancy.
- Salary range: $90,000 to $110,000 CAD plus hourly incentive bonus.
