Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Project Controls Scheduler to lead planning for design and construction initiatives in Canada. You will develop baselines, track progress, and coordinate with project managers and clients to keep schedules realistic and on track.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in EPCM environments, a civil/structural/electrical/mechanical engineering background, and hands-on experience with Primavera and MS Project. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in construction or engineering project environment.
  • Experience in EPCM environments with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent asset; PM certification is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project schedules using CPM and baseline schedules.
  • Create and maintain schedules for client, project manager and team.
  • Coordinate baselines with project manager and team before start.
  • Progress and update schedules; quantify impacts and progress.
  • Incorporate resource and cost data into schedules as needed.
  • Collaborate with client and project team to discuss impacts and issues.
  • Develop short-term lookahead schedules and monitor impacts on master schedule.
  • Support change control processes for schedules and related scope/cost.
  • Stay current with scheduling software; assist in change requests processing.

Job description

  • Develop project schedules tailored to design and construction using the critical path methodology (CPM).
  • Create and maintain schedules for the client, project manager and project team for design and construction projects.
  • Prior to project start, develop baseline schedules in coordination with the project manager and project team to logically sequence the scope of work.
  • Maintain and progress the schedule for each project.
  • Identify and quantify the impacts of work performed, assess actual progress and provide regular schedule updates.
  • Incorporate resource and/or cost data into schedules as required.
  • Liaise with the client and project team to discuss work impacts and resolve issues.
  • Ensure thorough planning is completed before work begins by consulting appropriate project team members and the client.
  • Collaborate with project managers to create short-term lookahead schedules and monitor these schedules to determine impacts on the master schedule and help formulate corrective actions to resolve scheduling issues.
  • Provide information as required on schedule content, revisions or presentation.
  • Change management – execute the integrated change control process for schedules.
  • Support project controls specialists and project managers in the change control process and in implementing change control requirements related to scope, cost and schedule.
  • Stay current with advances in scheduling software.
  • Assist in tracking change requests, evaluation, processing, approval and implementation.
  • For projects requiring on-site presence, fully collaborate with the client to meet scheduling and coordination needs.
  • Reporting: support recurring and ad hoc reporting requirements and actively participate in project report preparation activities.
  • Other planning-related activities as directed by the project controls manager.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a construction and/or engineering project environment.
  • Relevant experience contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team in engineering, procurement, construction and project management (EPCM) environments.
  • A degree in civil, structural, electrical or mechanical engineering is considered an asset.
  • A degree or credential in a certified project management program is considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines.
  • Self-directed, motivated and able to multitask.
  • High-level organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Computer skills: Primavera, MS Project, MS Office, Adobe.
  • Strong leadership, communication and adaptability skills.
