Job description

Project Manager - Survey / GIS - Anywhere in Canada

Project Manager - Survey and GIS (anywhere in Canada)

Who we are?

Cansel helps clients capture, transform and manage data leading to increased field to finish efficiency and profitability.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Project Manager (10+ years of experience) with a strong foundation in both GIS and surveying to support the delivery of complex geospatial and infrastructure projects across Canada and North America. This role is focused on hands-on project execution and coordination, requiring a deep understanding of geospatial data workflows and integration. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and tracking project activities, coordinating with cross-functional teams (field, processing, GIS, and client stakeholders), ensuring QA/QC standards are met, and delivering high-quality, GIS-ready outputs. Strong experience with data transformation and automation tools such as FME is highly desirable to support scalable and efficient workflows.

In this role, you will...
  • Collaborate with Survey and GIS teams to assess client requirements, scope projects, and create detailed proposals.
  • Define project objectives, deliverables, and timelines in alignment with client goals.
  • Oversee project execution, resource allocation, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance on GIS tools and Trimble survey workflows.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and milestones, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
  • Facilitate communication with clients, stakeholders, and team members, maintaining transparency and alignment.
  • Conduct regular project reviews, update stakeholders, and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support the integration of GIS solutions into existing workflows, customizing them as needed.
About you...
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in project management for survey and GIS-related projects.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • This role requires strong technical depth, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex geospatial data into clear, actionable insights for clients.
  • Experience with mobile mapping systems, asset extraction workflows, and structured GIS data models is essential.
  • This is an ideal opportunity for a technically strong professional who enjoys staying close to the data and workflows while driving project success without direct people management responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, SmartSheet, Salesforce).
  • Experience in budget management and financial reporting.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and deliver outstanding results.
  • Bilingual in English and French, with strong communication skills preferred
