Project Manager, Innovative Solutions - Packaging Manufacturing

Location: North York, On.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Position Overview

The Project Manager, Innovative Solutions plays a critical role in turning customer opportunities into successful packaging outcomes. This role connects Sales, Design, Estimating, Sample Development, Customer Service, and Operations to ensure that high-value opportunities are clearly understood, prioritized, communicated, and executed with a strong customer success mindset.

The successful candidate will act as a strategic partner to the VP of Sales by helping identify right-fit opportunities, guide the customer launch roadmap, remove internal roadblocks, and ensure innovate and elevate promise is consistently reflected in how we solve customer problems.

Key Responsibilities

Oversight and Team Management:

  • Serve as the direct supervisor for team members within the Packaging and Graphic Design teams, Estimating, and Small/Run Sample Development teams. Individuals in these groups will report directly to the Innovation and Solutions Manager.

Customer Success and Solution Ownership:

  • Act as the internal owner for strategic customer opportunities from concept through design, quote, sample, award, and launch readiness. Ensure the customer’s goals, timelines, risks, and definition of success are clearly understood and translated into actionable internal priorities.

Opportunity Coordination:

  • Serve as a key intermediary between Sales and the Packaging and Graphic Design teams, Estimating, and Small/Run Sample Development teams. Work closely with the VP of Sales to rank and prioritize opportunities based on customer value, strategic fit, probability of success, and operational readiness.

Cross-Functional Communication:

  • Lead regular cross-functional update meetings to maintain alignment on priorities, communicate design and estimating progress, identify constraints early, and provide timely, useful feedback to the Sales and Customer Service teams.

Customer Launch Roadmap:

  • Support the transition from opportunity to successful launch by coordinating handoffs, clarifying next steps, and ensuring awarded work is prepared for execution with minimal disruption to the customer or internal teams.

Market and Solution Development:

  • Collaborate with the VP of Sales to identify niche market opportunities and assist in developing targeted campaigns — including social media initiatives — that generate qualified leads and position the company as a leader in innovative packaging solutions.

Capability Alignment:

  • Coordinate capability review sessions with Customer Service and Operations to identify right-fit opportunities that align with production capabilities, reduce execution risk, and maximize customer success on new business awards.

Customer Experience Enhancement:

  • Help ensure every customer interaction reflects the company’s commitment to partnership, creativity, responsiveness, and shared success. Capture feedback and lessons learned so the organization continues to improve how it serves customers.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience managing customer-driven projects within packaging manufacturing, product development, creative services, or a related environment. The ideal candidate has coordinated projects from initial concept through design, estimating, sampling, and launch, working across creative, commercial, and operational teams.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a proactive approach to collaboration and customer follow-through
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, clarify next steps, and maintain attention to detail under tight timelines
  • Comfortable facilitating meetings, tracking progress, identifying risks, and communicating outcomes across teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Teams, Outlook) and familiarity with CRM or ERP systems (experience with Flute or similar systems is an asset)
  • Creative, solutions-oriented thinker with an understanding of digital marketing, customer engagement, and social media as sales tools
