Job summary

Matrix HR is seeking a Project Manager / Estimator in Calgary to join an established roofing and building-envelope contractor. This full-time role offers mentorship, growth, and exposure to a range of commercial roofing projects while developing estimating and project management skills.

The successful candidate will work with a senior team member, advancing responsibilities in estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and client coordination.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years in commercial roofing, construction, estimating, or related field.
• Some experience with estimating or project management preferred.
• Exposure to commercial roofing systems and construction practices.
• Ability to read drawings, specs and tender documents.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs, estimating, budgets or cost tracking is an asset.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Comfortable learning from experienced team members.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Experience with estimating or project management software is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to Calgary area sites.

Responsibilities

• Support the estimating and project management process from tender through project completion.
• Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and project requirements with guidance.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, estimates, pricing, and bid submissions for roofing projects.
• Obtain and review pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and project partners.
• Identify potential project risks, scope gaps, and cost considerations.
• Support awarded projects through kickoff, execution, and closeout.
• Assist with project budgets, schedules, procurement, and timelines.
• Coordinate with clients, general contractors, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and field teams.
• Participate in site visits and address project, scheduling, quality, and construction issues.
• Assist with RFIs, change orders, site instructions, and other project docs.
• Monitor project costs, progress, labour, materials, and overall performance.
• Assist with progress billing, project reporting, and final closeout.
• Maintain organized project documentation and records.
• Communicate with stakeholders and maintain client relationships.
• Work with field and office teams to ensure projects are on schedule and budget.
• Collaborate with senior PM / Estimator and receive mentorship and guidance.
• Take on increasing responsibility and independence as knowledge grows.

About the Opportunity

Matrix HR is recruiting a Project Manager / Estimator for an established commercial roofing and building-envelope contractor. This position offers full-time, permanent employment and is based at the client's Calgary office location.

This is an excellent opportunity for an intermediate-level construction professional looking to continue developing their estimating and project management skills within an established organization.

The successful candidate will work closely with and report to an experienced senior team member, receiving mentorship, guidance, and support while taking on increasing responsibility across estimating and project management activities.

The ideal candidate has a background in commercial roofing, construction, estimating, or project coordination, with the interest and ability to grow into a well-rounded Project Manager / Estimator.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the estimating and project management process from tender through project completion.

• Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and project requirements with guidance from senior team members.

• Assist with quantity takeoffs, estimates, pricing, and bid submissions for commercial roofing projects.

What You Bring

• 3–5+ years of experience in commercial roofing, construction, estimating, project coordination, or a related field.

• Some experience with estimating and/or project management is preferred.

• Exposure to commercial roofing systems and construction practices.

• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and tender documents.

• Experience with quantity takeoffs, estimating, project budgets, or cost tracking is an asset.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
