Job summary

Makivvik's Construction Division in Nunavik seeks a skilled Project Manager to lead housing construction initiatives. You will oversee conception, planning, and execution of Inuit housing units, coordinating with foremen, subcontractors, architects/engineers, suppliers, and communities.

The role emphasizes administrating project finances, recruiting local labor, and ensuring adherence to technical plans while traveling to sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in project management.
  • Good communication in at least two of Inuktitut, English and/or French.
  • Experience in remote regions is an asset.
  • Inuit traditions and cultural knowledge is an asset.
  • Desire to make a change.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage the conception and construction of Inuit housing units in Nunavik, in collaboration with foremen, subcontractors, architects/engineers, suppliers, and community representatives.
  • Ensure administrative and financial management of projects with the Division's resources.
  • Assist foremen in recruiting necessary employees and managing on-site construction workers, prioritizing local labor.
  • Provide technical information pertaining to plans, details and specifications.
  • Perform regular site visits to construction sites.
  • Identify issues and implement solutions within available options and resources.
  • Support the Division’s Construction Team member to ensure coherent project management processes.
  • Establish inventory with foreman and supply section; supervise procurement, transport and storage of equipment and materials.
  • Be available to travel as requested.
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.

The Construction Division of Makivvik is non-profit organization responsible for implementing the Inuit Housing Program in Nunavik. Its main objective is to build quality housing while maximizing employment opportunities for Inuit, providing training and promoting the local economy as much as possible.

Reports to: The Director of the Construction Division in the President’s Department.

Responsibilities
  • Work within Makivvik's Construction Division – a non-profit organisation which is responsible for implementing the Inuit Housing Construction Program in Nunavik. Its main objective is to build quality housing while maximizing employment opportunities for Nunavik Inuit, providing training and promoting Nunavik's local economy as much as possible;
  • Plan and manage the conception and construction of Inuit housing units in Nunavik (North of the 55th parallel); in collaboration with foremen, subcontractors, architects/engineers, suppliers, and representatives of the communities;
  • Ensure the administrative and financial management of the projects together with the resources of the Division;
  • Assist the foremen in the execution of the following tasks: In collaboration with the Human Resources Section, recruit the necessary employees (carpenters, operators, chefs and camp aides); manage on-site construction workers; prioritize the recruiting of local labor force and resources;
  • Assist the foremen by providing technical information pertaining to the interpretation of plans, of technical details and of specifications;
  • Proceed with regular visits of the construction sites;
  • Identify issues and, according to the available options and resources, implement solutions;
  • Provide support to the Division’s Construction Team Member to ensure a coherent and efficient development and application of project management processes;
  • Establish the inventory, together with the foreman and the supply section, and supervise the purchase, the transport and the storage of equipment, tools and construction material;
  • Be available to travel, as requested;
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, or engineering.
  • Equivalent pertinent experience will be considered;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in project management;
  • Good communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages: Inuktitut, English and/or French;
  • Experience in remote regions is an asset;
  • Inuit traditions and cultural knowledge and understanding, is an asset;
  • Desire to make a change.
