Position: Project Manager

The Tla'amin Nation is a modern, forward-thinking, self-governing nation located on the beautiful upper Sunshine Coast (qathet Region).

Position Summary

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

Hours of Work: 8:30AM - 4:30PM, Monday - Friday

Reporting to: Director of Public Works & Capital Infrastructure

Department: Public Works & Capital Infrastructure

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of various construction projects related to infrastructure, housing, and land developments to meet cultural and community needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform duties in accordance with Tla'amin policies, standards, and laws, maintaining confidentiality as required.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations, and procurement strategies.
  • Manage project budgets, including preparing and reporting on costs, progress, and forecasts.
  • Support the RFP process and evaluate and select contractors and subcontractors.
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring alignment to schedules and specifications, and ensure best practices in sustainable construction.
  • Monitor work to meet quality, environmental, and safety standards; conduct site inspections and resolve issues.
  • Ensure all permits are obtained and monitor project progress, reporting on milestones, budgets, and risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and Tla'amin policies and laws.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the project team, conducting regular meetings to facilitate communication.
  • Establish relationships with department managers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Manage project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings, and change orders.
  • Work interactively with the Tla'amin community and government stakeholders, promoting employment and training opportunities for Tla'amin people.
  • Conduct project evaluations and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing construction projects and in new construction activities within the last 4 years.
  • Experience with project management software and structured processes.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Acceptable Police Information Check prior to employment.
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of BC building codes, environmental regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and schedules.
  • Technical aptitude with technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams to meet project timelines.
  • Effective verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to read maps, design drawings, and schematics.
