Job summary

The University of Saskatchewan seeks a Project Manager, Campus Operations to lead the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects from initiation through completion. You will manage scope, budgets, schedules, risks, procurement, and stakeholders while aligning with campus standards and sustainability goals.

Reporting to Campus Operations, you will coordinate designers, consultants, and contractors, ensure safety compliance, and maintain project governance to achieve successful outcomes

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• PMP designation preferred.
• SASTT membership preferred.
• Minimum of three years of progressively responsible construction project management experience including developing and managing budgets, schedules, and contract documentation.
• Experience delivering capital construction projects for an owner/client using procurement models (design-build, design-bid-build, construction management).
• Ability to lead projects through all phases from planning to closeout.
• Working knowledge of building codes, regulations, and sustainability principles.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Summary

Working closely with campus partners, theprojectmanager provides strategic project leadership and technicalexpertiseto support successful project outcomes. Thisrole serves as the primary point of accountability for project execution and performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Leadsthe planning, execution, and delivery of construction projects byestablishingprojectobjectives,andcoordinatingproject activities.


• Definesproject scope in collaboration with campus stakeholders andevaluatesproject requirements against university planning and development standards, space requirements, sustainability goals, architectural considerations, and industryleadingpractices.


• Leadsproject governance by developing project strategies,identifyingand mitigating risks, resolving complex issues, and implementing change management approaches to support project success.


• Maintainsproject budgets from development through completion byestablishingcost estimates, monitoring expenditures, administering change orders, and communicating financial impacts to stakeholders.


• Developsandmaintainscomprehensive project schedules by coordinating activities, tracking milestones,monitoringdependencies, and addressing schedule risks and delays.


• Leadsstakeholder engagement activities byidentifyingproject stakeholders, developing communication strategies,facilitatingconsultations, and maintaining effective relationships throughout project delivery.


• Coordinatesthe development of preliminary and final designs by working with internal departments, external consultants, and technical specialists.


• Overseesthe work of consultants, contractors, and trades by providing direction,monitoringperformance, facilitating coordination, and supportingtimelyproject execution.


• Promotesconstruction safety by monitoring compliance with contractual requirements, legislation, and university standards, and by engagingappropriate safetyprofessionals and inspectors.


• Maintainscurrent knowledge of building codes, construction practices, sustainability principles, life-cycle costing methodologies, product developments, warranties, and university standards to support informed project decisions.


• Advancesinstitutional sustainabilityobjectivesby incorporating sustainable design, construction, and operational principles into project planning and decision-making activities.


• Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering,constructionmanagement,architecture,architecturaltechnology, ora relatedfield.


• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred.


• Membership with the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT) or another relevant professional association is preferred.


• Minimum of threeyears of progressively responsible construction project management experienceincludingexperience developing and managing project budgets, schedules, and contract documentation.


• Experience managing and delivering capital construction projects on behalf of an owner/client using various procurement models, including design-build, design-bid-build, and construction management.


• Demonstrated ability to lead projects through all phases, from planning and procurement to commissioning and closeout.


• Working knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations, legislation, construction standards, and project governance practices.


• Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.


• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills, with sound judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities.


• Proficiencywith Microsoft Office and project management software; knowledge of university policies, planning processes, and sustainability principles is an asset.
