Job summary

BC Hydro in Fort St. John is seeking a Project Manager 2 for Site C GPAC & Warranty to lead governance updates and milestone tracking.

This full-time, temporary role requires coordinating with multiple groups, driving schedules, and reporting progress to site leadership. Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in utility projects, strong communication, and Microsoft Office expertise; PMP certification is an asset.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must have a diploma or degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Project Management, Operations, or a related discipline, or a red seal trades certification with at least 10 years of field experience in an electrical utility.
  • PMP Certification will be considered a strong asset for this role.
  • 10+ years of experience in planning, scheduling, commissioning, operations, maintenance, construction, or project execution in infrastructure or utility sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead updates to the Site C GPAC Governance Plan and coordinate with business groups to escalate issues early.
  • Maintain the GPAC Schedule and provide monthly updates for Site C Project Accountability meetings.
  • Supervise GPAC Project Coordinator and align deliverables with GPAC milestones and reporting.
  • Facilitate GPAC-FFS and GPAC-Completion meetings and distribute minutes promptly.
  • Organize joint site walk-throughs and distribute key GPAC-FFS deliverables such as deficiency lists and commissioning reports.
  • Escalate GPAC risks early to protect schedule and support schedule updates.
  • Lead documentation migration to final locations and build relationships with Site C, SFO, IP and related reps.

BC Hydro is located at Fort St. John Site C Constr Ofc. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Project Manager 2 – Site C GPAC & Warranty. We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This is a full-time temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2027.

  • The candidate will be responsible for leading updates to the Site C Project Acceptance Governance Plan, communicating roles and responsibilities to other business groups, and escalating issues early to the Site C Project Acceptance Manager for resolution.

  • The candidate will be responsible for regularly maintaining the Site C GPAC Schedule and providing monthly updates for presentation at the Site C Project Accountability Meeting.

  • The candidate will be responsible for directly supervising the Site C GPAC Project Coordinator (currently vacant and posted for recruitment), ensuring the role supports the progress of GPAC deliverables between GPAC meetings and their alignment with GPAC schedule milestone dates, while providing leadership in updating and developing GPAC deliverable trackers, providing input on follow-up meeting frequency, and requiring regular reporting.

  • The candidate will be responsible for leading GPAC-FFS and GPAC-Completion meetings with all relevant business groups, increasing meeting frequency as milestone dates approach, and ensuring meeting minutes/notes are distributed immediately following meetings.

  • The candidate will be responsible for organizing and conducting joint site walk-throughs of associated equipment before GPAC-FFS sign-off and distributing key GPAC-FFS deliverables in advance, including Master Deficiency List exports, scope drawings, commissioning reports, etc. provided by others.

  • The candidate will be responsible for escalating any GPAC risks to the Project Acceptance Manager early to prevent impacts to the GPAC schedule or support endorsement of GPAC schedule updates.

  • The candidate will be responsible for leading the organization and migration of GPAC-related documentation from project sharepoints and J-Drives to their final locations according to input from other departments.

  • The candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining productive working relationships with Site C project, SFO, and Integrated Planning representatives.


Warranty Management



  • The candidate will be responsible for updating the Site C Warranty Management Plan and providing leadership to the Site C Project in managing warranties according to the plan.

  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all potential warranty claims are recorded in the Master Deficiency List (MDL Portal) and that all warranty claims are kept current on the MDL.

  • The candidate will be responsible for leading the Site C project in preparing warranty claim letters and submitting them to OEM(s).

  • The candidate will be responsible for leading regular internal meetings with SFO and Integrated Planning to review warranty claim statuses for the Site C project.

  • The candidate will lead less regular external meetings between the Site C project, SFO, IP, and the OEM(s) to discuss warranty claim statuses and next steps towards resolution.

  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that warranty requirements are clearly understood and incorporated into the maintenance and operations business plans.


Job Requirements


  • The candidate must have a diploma or degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Project Management, Operations, or a related discipline, or a red seal trades certification with a minimum of 10 years of field experience in an electrical utility.

  • The candidate with PMP Certification will be considered a strong asset for this role.

  • The candidate must have 10+ years of experience in planning, scheduling, commissioning, operations, maintenance, construction, or project execution environments.

  • The candidate with past experience with GPAC within the electrical utility industry will be considered an asset.

  • The candidate with any post‑secondary education in asset management or risk management will be considered an asset.

  • The candidate with experience working within large infrastructure, utility, energy, or capital project environments will be considered an asset.

  • The candidate with strong Microsoft Office Skills and experience is strongly preferred, especially Excel.

  • The candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • The candidate must have a proven ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and priorities in a complex project environment.

  • The candidate with exceptional presentation, facilitation, and relationship‑building skills will be considered an asset.

  • The candidate must have strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.

  • The candidate must maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing as a condition of employment.

Work conditions and physical capabilities


  • The candidate will be required to travel regularly to Site C, including a minimum one‑week site visit every eight weeks.

  • The candidate will have frequent interactions with project managers, construction managers/officers, engineers, SFO managers, asset managers, and commissioning teams.

  • The candidate will be required to frequently facilitate meetings and complex work coordination sessions.
