Project Manager

Job Description: The client has been designated by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to design, plan, deliver and report on the annual Symposium. The JOS brings together senior defence and security leaders, practitioners, academics and other experts to address major operational challenges faced by the client and the broader defence team.

The targeted in-person audience are current and future senior leaders such as Government of Canada (GOC) Ministers, Deputy‑Ministers, CAF Level 0-2 commanders and directors‑general, defence industry representatives, allies and academia from across the broader national defence and security enterprise. The audience also includes unlimited national and international multi‑level virtual participation from across the national security sector.

On behalf of Director‑General Readiness, the Director Joint Readiness (DJR) is responsible for the coordination, synchronization, administration, delivery and reporting of the JOS on behalf of the Commander CJOC.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Planning and coordinating project management activities in support of the JOS.
  • Developing, planning, analyzing, evaluating and prioritizing deliverables.
  • Monitoring the design, implementation and operations start‑up of the project against established goals, objectives and milestones.
  • Contributing to the development of the project’s vision and theme.
  • Preparing plans, charts, tables, and diagrams as necessary to assist in analyzing or displaying problems.
  • Assist in the planning and development of the JOS theme with experts in the field including academia, industry, and CAF and DND personnel that include military officers, public servants and other contractors.
  • Support and advise the TA on approaching budgetary limitations.
  • Refine and assist planning the focus of the keynote speaker ideas.
  • Contribute and advise on the production of multiple panel discussion speaking points.
  • Utilize information provided from the TA to align the CAF’s efforts to the overall theme.
  • Collaborate with the TA on the production of event handouts to ensure alignment with theme intent and messaging.
Must Have:
  • Must meet the Senior Flexible grid for Project Manager
  • Must have secret level clearance
  • Must have 60 months of experience in developing strategic or operational policies, directives, plans and/or concepts in the defence and security sector
  • Must have 60 months of experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management (director level and above or equivalent)
  • Must demonstrate 20 years of experience within the defence sector
  • Must have 24 months of experience demonstrating that the resource possesses operational experience on a domestic or expeditionary mission
  • Must have 120+ months of experience working with multiple government departments or Allied/Partnered Armed Forces
  • Must have 120+ months of experience in leading or contributing to the professional development of senior leaders and the body of knowledge in the defence and security sectors
