Job description

IGB Technologies Inc. is looking for a Project Manager to support our growing power transformer business across Canada.

IGB Technologies Inc. supplies electrical equipment to Canada's industrial market, working with leading manufacturers of power transformers and other electrical equipment. Our customers include major organizations across utilities, oil & gas, mining, forestry, and municipal infrastructure.

Position Overview

The Project Manager will support the full transformer project lifecycle from RFQ through final delivery and project closeout. This includes reviewing vendor proposals, developing technical and commercial clarifications, and managing awarded projects through engineering, manufacturing, factory testing, shipment, and delivery.

The role is the primary coordination point between Canadian customers, IGB Technologies, and our transformer vendors' engineering and manufacturing teams. Both demonstrated project management experience and an electrical background are required. Previous power transformer experience is an asset, but we are willing to teach the right candidate the transformer side of the business.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Manage power transformer projects from RFQ through final delivery and project closeout, including schedules, milestones, action items, customer deliverables, and multiple projects at different stages of execution.

  • Review transformer vendor proposals for technical and commercial completeness and alignment with customer specifications, RFQ requirements, and intended scope; develop and incorporate clarifications, exceptions, exclusions, and scope details with IGB Technologies and our vendors.

  • Act as the primary customer contact and coordinate customers, IGB Technologies, transformer vendors, consultants, transportation providers, and other stakeholders; lead regular project meetings and provide clear updates on schedules, outstanding items, decisions, and risks.

  • Coordinate transformer drawings and technical documentation through submission, review, revision, and approval, ensuring customer specifications, contractual requirements, and project commitments are clearly communicated and tracked.

  • Track engineering approvals, manufacturing milestones, long-lead components, factory testing, shipping, and delivery; coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), customer attendance, and transportation of large transformer shipments into Canada.

  • Identify and resolve schedule, technical, commercial, supply-chain, deficiency, warranty, and post-delivery issues; manage project changes, change orders, commercial issues, and additional customer requirements.

  • Track project costs and support commercial management; maintain organized project records and documentation; and support continued improvement of IGB Technologies' transformer project management processes.

What We're Looking For

  • An electrical background, gained through education and/or relevant industry experience, is required. Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Project Management, or a related field is preferred.

  • At least 3 years of project management or project coordination experience and a PMP, CAPM, or other recognized project management certification are required.

  • Experience managing technical, manufacturing, construction, electrical, utility, or industrial projects is preferred; power transformer, substation, electrical utility, or medium- and high-voltage equipment experience is an asset but is not required.

  • Ability to review and understand technical specifications, drawings, vendor proposals, project schedules, contracts, and commercial documentation, and identify gaps or required clarifications.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and issues through to resolution.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including direct communication with customers, engineers, suppliers, contractors, and senior management, and the ability to coordinate with overseas manufacturers across teams, cultures, and time zones.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software is preferred, and experience with QuickBooks and CRM software is considered an asset.

  • A valid driver's license.

The Person We're Looking For

  • Takes ownership of projects, stays highly organized, follows up consistently, and looks ahead for potential problems rather than reacting after they occur.

  • Keeps customers informed, holds internal and external stakeholders accountable to schedules and commitments, and builds strong relationships with Canadian customers and overseas manufacturing partners.

  • Knows when issues need to be escalated, drives them to resolution, and manages project details without losing sight of schedule and commercial objectives, with strong attention to proposal and documentation detail.

  • Is comfortable in a technical environment and interested in learning power transformer technology, electrical codes, standards, and utility requirements.

About the Role

This is an opportunity to become closely involved in the Canadian power transformer market and develop specialized knowledge in transformer design, manufacturing, testing, transportation, Canadian utility requirements, and applicable standards. IGB Technologies is a small, close-knit team, and the successful candidate will work directly with customers, our internal team, and transformer vendors with significant project ownership and the opportunity to contribute to the growth of our transformer business.

Our transformer manufacturing partners are located in South Korea, so regular calls and meetings outside typical business hours will be required. The position is currently based in Edmonton, Alberta, with the potential to relocate to Calgary in the future.
