Job summary

Robinson Consultants Inc. seeks a Project Engineer in Ottawa for municipal transportation design across local roads, complete streets, roundabouts and active transportation facilities. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary projects for public and private sectors and mentor junior staff.

Ideal candidates hold a P.Eng. with Ontario registration, 5+ years of design experience, and strong communication skills in English.

Qualifications

• Registered P.Eng. with PEO and a Civil/Environmental Engineering degree.
• 5+ years of progressive municipal transportation design experience.
• Mentoring experience with junior engineers or technicians.
• Strong client and interpersonal skills and leadership ability.
• Familiarity with Ontario municipal/provincial design standards.

Responsibilities

• Join project engineering team to define scope, budget, and schedules.
• Design roadway geometry, intersections, active transportation facilities and safety features.
• Coordinate permits, utility relocations, and stakeholder approvals.
• Prepare engineering calculations, specs, quantities, and tender documents.
• Develop reports, memos, minutes, and support proposals and client relations.
• Provide technical support during construction and perform QA/QC reviews.
• Stamp drawings and ensure quality control across documents.

Robinson Consultants is seeking a self-motivated Project Engineer to join the collaborative and dynamic team in our Ottawa office. As a Project Engineer, you will work on a variety of municipal transportation design projects, and multi-disciplinary assignments for both private and public sector clients including, local and arterial roads, complete streets, active transportation facilities, roundabouts and protected intersections.

What you’ll be doing:

• Actively participates on the project engineering team to define the problem, establish the scope of work, prepare budgets and schedules, plan the work, and provide technical direction and oversight.
• Design geometric alignments, roadway plans, active transportation facilities, intersections, cross-sections, grading plans, drainage, earthworks, and roadside safety.
• Coordinate the project development, utility relocations and property acquisition process including permits and approvals from stakeholders and utility agencies.
• Prepare detailed engineering calculations, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, procurement documents, design packages, and contract tender documents.
• Develop engineering reports, technical memos, meeting minutes and correspondence, and support technical proposal write-ups, business development and client support.
• Provide technical support and liaison during construction.
• Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) Reviews and stamp engineering drawings and documents.

You should have:

• Bachelor of Engineering Degree in either Civil or Environmental Engineering and a currently a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• 5 years or more of progressive municipal transportation engineering design experience involving preliminary and detailed design of municipal roads, intersections, active transportation facilities, and roadway safety.
• 1 year or more of providing effective mentoring to less experienced engineers, technicians, or designers.
• Superior client and interpersonal skills, combined with strong team and leadership abilities.
• Familiarity with the principles, guidelines, and best practices of transportation engineering design processes, practices, and standards used in Ontario by various municipal and provincial clients for the design and construction of transportation infrastructures.
• Working experience and knowledge of any or a combination of Microstation, AutoCAD, InRoads/OpenRoads, Civil3D, MS Office, and MS Project.
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance diverse, changing, and conflicting priorities to meet short and long-term project milestones.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (bilingualism considered a strong asset).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
