Job summary

City Of Edmonton seeks a Project Engineer (EIT) to join a technical team developing transportation forecasting models. You will apply urban planning, traffic engineering, and data science to support the City Plan and regional planning.

You will work on microsimulation, DTA, and macroscopic models, integrate planning and analytics, and present data-driven insights to stakeholders. A hybrid work arrangement and EDO program are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with coursework in Traffic Engineering/Planning.
• EIT in good standing with APEGA required before commencement of employment.
• Experience with transportation modeling and data analytics is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and execute transportation models across microsimulation, DTA, and travel demand.
• Coordinate data exchange for travel demand and DTA models.
• Research and implement advanced modeling techniques and tools.
• Configure, run, and evaluate custom model scenarios with land use and network inputs.
• Perform scenario analysis for long-range planning and community traffic management.
• Extract KPIs and prepare technical reports for internal/external clients.
• Build interactive dashboards for management, partners, and the public.

Job Number: 56140As a Project Engineer (EIT), you will join a high-performing technical team dedicated to developing, maintaining, and deploying advanced transportation forecasting models. In this role, you will leverage urban planning, traffic engineering, and data science principles to power corporate growth, regional planning, and traffic operations.You will combine cutting-edge modeling techniques and statistical estimation to build and operate large-scale simulation models. Success in this role relies on applying core transportation principles, analyzing complex spatial data, and calibrating models to TAC and FHWA guidelines—delivering data-driven insights that shape long-term strategic initiatives like the City Plan.What will you do?Assist the team to develop, maintain, and execute transportation models across all scales (microsimulation, mesoscopic/Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA), and macroscopic/travel demand)Integrate transportation planning, engineering, and statistical techniques to optimize modeling algorithms and platformsCoordinate data exchange to seamlessly integrate travel demand and DTA modelsResearch and implement advanced modeling techniques, toolsets, and emerging technologies (e.g., adaptive traffic signals, AVs, and ITS)Configure, run, and evaluate custom model scenarios based on specific land use and network input assumptionsPerform scenario analysis for long range transportation planning, travel demand management initiatives, community traffic management plans and construction detour/closure impact assessmentsExtract key performance indicators (KPIs), compile and interpret modeling results to internal and external clientsAuthor comprehensive technical reports for review and authentication by accountable engineersBuild interactive visual dashboards for management, Community Partners, and the publicCollaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to support evidence-based decision-makingQualifications:Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with coursework in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, and/or Urban PlanningMust be an Engineer in Training (EIT) in good standing and registered with APEGA.
