Spectraforce supports a client in Oakville seeking a Project Engineer to lead the mechanical scope of water and wastewater projects. You will develop documents, perform bid evaluations, and ensure quality while meeting schedules and budgets.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical design, experience with pumps/valves, and ability to read P&IDs and PFDs. Hybrid work model in Oakville with site collaboration and customer interface.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a related engineering field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring design quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Generate technical specifications and conduct bid evaluations for fabrication/procurement of mechanical equipment (pumps, blowers, compressors, vessels, filters, piping, valves).
  • Engineer systems compliant with engineering principles, standards, specifications, and codes.
  • Review drawings and related documents to ensure complete documentation.
  • Coordinate design reviews and resolve scheduling/technical issues during construction and start-up.
  • Meet QMS requirements for project execution and documentation.
  • Interface with project manager and customer for project resolution.
  • Experience with evaluating rotating equipment, piping, tanks, and valves.
  • Ability to read P&IDs and PFDs including material balances.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of water chemistry.
  • Hydraulic design experience including head and NPSH calculations for pump sizing.
  • Effective communication and teamwork across departments.

Job description

Location / Work Model: Hybrid - Oakville location, 3x/week to start, could go down to 2x/week deeper into contract once they are trained and familiar with the team onsite.

Work Schedule: 9-5

Role Definition (Non-Negotiable)

Role Summary/Purpose:

Responsible for the detailed mechanical engineering scope of industrial and municipal water and wastewater systems as well as biological sludge incineration and digestion. The Project Engineer (PE) develops key documents and generates technical RFQ packages and technical bid evaluations for rotating equipment, vessels, valves and other mechanical equipment. The PE works with a cross-functional engineering and broader project team to deliver to our customers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related technical discipline.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a related Engineering field.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical related design of water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring design quality, while meeting project schedule, budget, and customers’ expectations.
  • Perform required calculations needed for sizing, generate technical specifications and perform technical bid evaluations for the fabrication/procurement of various mechanical equipment including (but not limited to) pumps, blowers, compressors, chemical feed systems, vessels/tanks, filters, piping systems, and valves.
  • Engineer systems in compliance with engineering principles, customer standards and specifications, contractual requirements, and local applicable codes.
  • Ensure that all engineering designs, bills of material and technical data are completely and accurately documented by reviewing associated engineering drawings and related documents.
  • Coordinate activities concerned with process and mechanical design reviews as well as project issue (scheduling and technical) resolution related to design, construction and start-up.
  • Meet Quality Management System (QMS) requirements for project execution and documentation.
  • Interface with project manager and customer on project and problem resolution.
  • Experience with the specification and evaluation of rotating equipment, piping, tanks and manual valves.
  • Ability to read P&IDs and PFDs (including material balances).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail and a basic understanding of water chemistry.
  • Experience with hydraulic design including head and NPSH calculations for sizing of pumps.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to team and department projects.
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced work environment.
  • Good technical writing and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with co-workers.
