Job summary

Amaris Consulting in Canada is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer – Water & Wastewater to lead mechanical design and execution of industrial and municipal treatment systems, including equipment specifications, RFQ preparation, hydraulics, and bid evaluations.

This hybrid role focuses on detailed mechanical engineering, including equipment specification, RFQ preparation, hydraulic calculations, and technical bid evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a related engineering field.
  • Experience specifying and evaluating rotating equipment, piping, tanks, and manual valves.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and PFDs, including material balances.
  • Experience with hydraulic design, including head and NPSH calculations for pump sizing.
  • Fluent in English; French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical-related design of water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring design quality while meeting project schedule, budget, and customer expectations.
  • Execute calculations for sizing, generate technical specifications, and perform technical bid evaluations for fabrication/procurement of mechanical equipment (pumps, blowers, compressors, chemical feed systems, vessels/tanks, filters, piping, valves).
  • Engineer systems in compliance with engineering principles, customer standards, contractual requirements, and local codes.
  • Ensure all engineering designs, BOMs, and data are documented by reviewing drawings and related documents.
  • Coordinate design reviews and project issue resolution during design, construction, and start-up phases.
  • Meet QMS requirements for project execution and documentation.
  • Interface with project manager and customer on project and problem resolution.

Job description

We are looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer – Water & Wastewater to support the mechanical design and execution of industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment, biological sludge incineration, and digestion projects. This role is primarily focused on detailed mechanical engineering, including equipment specification, RFQ preparation, hydraulic calculations, technical bid evaluations, and the development of key engineering documentation. You will ensure the quality and compliance of mechanical designs while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and project stakeholders to successfully deliver projects in a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical-related design of water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring design quality while meeting project schedule, budget, and customer expectations.
  • Execute required calculations for sizing, generate technical specifications, and perform technical bid evaluations for the fabrication/procurement of mechanical equipment including pumps, blowers, compressors, chemical feed systems, vessels/tanks, filters, piping systems, and valves.
  • Engineer systems in compliance with engineering principles, customer standards and specifications, contractual requirements, and local applicable codes.
  • Ensure all engineering designs, bills of material, and technical data are completely and accurately documented by reviewing associated engineering drawings and related documents.
  • Coordinate activities related to process and mechanical design reviews, as well as project issue resolution (scheduling and technical) during design, construction, and start-up phases.
  • Meet Quality Management System (QMS) requirements for project execution and documentation.
  • Interface with project manager and customer on project and problem resolution.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a related engineering field.
  • Experience specifying and evaluating rotating equipment, piping, tanks, and manual valves.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and PFDs, including material balances.
  • Experience with hydraulic design, including head and NPSH calculations for pump sizing.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of water chemistry.
  • Fluent in English; French is an asset.
  • Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
Expected Compensation Range:

100K The final compensation offered will be determined based on the candidate’s level of experience, skills, and qualifications, in compliance with applicable pay transparency requirements.

Canadian Experience Requirement:

No Canadian work experience is required for this position. Candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of previous Canadian experience.
