DPS Group Global is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and coordinate a design team on wastewater treatment projects. You will contribute to all design stages from site surveys to detailed design, working under a Design Manager.

The role requires strong leadership, communication, and a background in water/wastewater design, with the ability to mentor juniors and manage design delivery in a collaborative, one-team environment.

Qualifications

  • Chartered membership is an advantage; working towards incorporated or chartered status.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Mentor junior / graduate mechanical design engineers.
  • Proven leadership and decisive team management experience.
  • Water and wastewater design experience is highly desirable.
  • Commercial experience is desirable.
  • Able to work in a team and contribute to project delivery.
  • Proactive problem-solving and initiative are important.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Full driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to Design Manager and coordinating the design team.
  • Produce mechanical design deliverables for water, wastewater and process plants.
  • Assist in site surveys, option studies, feasibility work, detailed design and tender pricing.
  • Prepare procurement specs, hydraulic calculations and detailed drawings.
  • Project manage third party designs and support installation/commissioning teams.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Civil & Structural designers.
  • Ensure HSE, CDM, and sustainability standards are followed.
  • Monitor design delivery performance and update plans.
  • Contribute to growth and development of the company.

Mechanical Design Engineer - (Wastewater Treatment Projects)
The Role

You will lead in a one-team culture while actively contributing to your own skills and experience. To co-ordinate the design team to deliver the required outputs for a portfolio of projects under the guidance of a design manager.

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who can demonstrate the following attributes:
  • Provide commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with complying fully with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) and all other relevant H&S legislation.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the layout and interconnectivity of typical water and wastewater treatment works processes and equipment including pumping systems
  • Strong communication skills to interact with other engineering disciplines and clients
  • Ability to produce clear and concise mechanical design deliverables across all design stages of a project
  • Ability to manage design delivery and project manage
  • Leadership skills to manage and motivate individuals to consistently deliver
  • Willingness to contribute to and develop technical knowledge networks
  • A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions
Main Duties And Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer are outlined as follows:
  • Reporting to the Design Manager.
  • Part of a multi-disciplined team of engineers responsible to produce design deliverables for water, wastewater and process treatment plants.
  • Responsible for assisting in all aspects of mechanical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.
  • Production of procurement specifications for mechanical equipment; hydraulic calculations and production of detailed design construction drawings.
  • Project managing third party designs and providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams. Liaising with clients and subcontractors.
  • Work as part of a team to support project delivery function, embracing the ethos of a one team culture.
  • Ensure Design, Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to.
  • Monitoring of design delivery performance and efficiency, adjusting and reacting as necessary to ensure targets are achieved and ensuring the MIDP is kept up to date.
  • Produce mechanical design outputs as and when required.
  • Ensure the Clients Technical Requirements are met throughout the design.
  • Conduct regular meetings with project delivery teams to allocate resources, monitor the plan and adjust as necessary in consultation with the project delivery teams.
  • Monitor and update Design Change Control.
  • Liaise between Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil & Structural Designers
  • Be involved in the growth and development of the company including expansion of the direct delivery model. Tasks include the development of business cases for onboarding staff, gap analysis of required resources, recruitment and structuring.
  • Provide robust leadership and a sounding board for supporting site teams.
  • Show an eagerness to learn and progress in your own career as well as the mentoring and training of more junior staff.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
The main knowledge, skills and experience required are outlined as follows:
  • Chartered membership of relevant professional institution an advantage but not essential providing the candidate is working towards either incorporated or chartered status.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Provide mentorship to junior / graduate mechanical design engineers
  • Strong team leader & decision maker with proven experience essential.
  • Water and Wastewater design experience highly desirable.
  • Commercial experience is desirable.
  • An interest in developing a career within an industry-leading organisation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in project delivery and provide input at team meetings.
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise.
  • Good working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
  • Full driving licence
