Job summary

Cygnus Design Group is seeking a Project Designer to contribute to wayfinding and environmental graphic design projects for municipalities, hospitals, universities, museums, and mixed-use developments. At this level of seniority, we promote autonomy on small-to-mid-sized projects, while providing a supporting role on mid-to-large-scale projects.

Open to candidates in Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria, with a preference for candidates based in Toronto and Calgary.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of environmental graphic design experience from concept to construction documentation.
• Strong conceptual and visual design sense with problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with strong organization and communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform site assessments, visitor needs assessments, and participate in engagement activities.
• Location planning and mapping for wayfinding programs.
• Design concepts for wayfinding and environmental graphics programs.
• Develop elevation drawings and specifications for signage outcomes.
• Create and refine message schedules and construction packages.
• Prepare, issue and present client-facing design documentation.
• Coordinate with signage production and installation vendors including review of shop drawings, attendance at site meetings, and deficiency reviews.

General Responsibilities

• Perform site assessments, visitor needs assessments, and participate in engagement activities.


• Location planning and mapping for wayfinding programs.


• Design concepts for wayfinding and environmental graphics programs.


• Develop elevation drawings and specifications for signage outcomes.


• Create and refine message schedules and construction packages.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• 3+ years of environmental graphic design experience taking projects from concepts through to construction documentation.


• Degree/diploma from a recognized university or college in a design related field, such as graphic design, industrial design, or architecture.


• Excellent sense of visual and industrial design, creative thinking, and problem solving.


• Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.


• Ability to set and maintain project schedules and proactively make changes where needed.

Software Experience

• Proficiency in Mac OS & G Suite tools.


• Expert with Adobe Creative Suite.


• Competency in 3D rendering software, CAD, or Revit is an asset.


• Salary: $60,000-$75,000 CAD (commensurate with experience)
