The success of these projects depends on technical knowledge and experience, pro-active project management, clear communication and solutions-oriented problem solving. Wills provides a full suite of land development services to help our clients get where they are going. Our experts include engineers, project managers, professional planners, biologists, hydrogeologists, contract administrators, surveyors and inspectors who work closely together to understand the big picture and how each piece of a project is interconnected. We believe that the better integrated our land development services are, the greater the benefits are to the entire project.

Your opportunity as a Project Designer is to strengthen our site servicing and stormwater management teams by preparing engineering drawings and technical documents. You will play an integral role in our land development services, building on a strong foundation of partnership to provide the best solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating contract drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D design software.
  • Completing field reviews.
  • Preparing cost estimates and quantity calculations.
  • Prepare and produce design drawings and 3-D design models.
  • Prepare various design and presentation materials including drawings.
  • Liaise with staff, clients, agencies, and sub-consultants during the design phase.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and solve design issues.
  • Provide updates on the progress of design projects.
  • Ensure the design integrity of all aspects of projects through design development, detail design, tendering and construction.

Experience, Qualifications and Skills:

  • Civil Engineering Technician/Technology Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent work ethic and ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time management skills to meet project timelines.
  • General knowledge of various design standards and requirements, such as OPSS and OPSD.

Additional qualifications that are considered an asset:

  • Experience with the ESRI ArcMap Geographic Information System (GIS) software package for the development of hydrology studies and floodplain maps.
  • Holder of, or eligible to obtain, an Ontario Class G Driver’s License.

At Wills, we build partnerships with our team members, clients and community rooted in respect and fostered through a work environment that is committed to supporting, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We value smart work and promote a work-life balance for team members with flexible work options including hybrid work (in office/remote). We provide a social and professional environment to support your personal and professional goals. We believe what we do has a significant impact on our community and the communities where we work.

Why this Job Matters

The work you do will contribute to successful community and housing developments, a priority for Ontario and across Canada.

What You Will Gain

As a Project Designer, you will gain hands-on design experience in the civil consulting engineering environment. You will have the opportunity to apply the engineering design skills developed to date, as well as advance your knowledge of engineering design theory, practical applications, and societal implications of our engineering work. Depending on your interests and motivation, this job can provide an opportunity for a broad-based experience.

Wills offers a competitive compensation package with comprehensive benefits and merit-based bonuses for performance and tenure. Salary will be commensurate with experience. D.M.
