What is the Opportunity?

Spanning five decades and more than 400 nuclear energy projects, Aecon Nuclear’s portfolio of building, refurbishing, maintaining, and decommissioning nuclear power facilities reflects a record of project success that ranges from small but essential maintenance contracts to major construction endeavors. Aecon supports clients with expert project management and trades working to Aecon’s most exacting standards, based on the nuclear industry’s fundamental principles of safety, reliability, quality, and predictable performance.

To support the nuclear sector in Canada, Aecon maintains a nuclear quality management system compliant to CSA Standards N286-05, CAN3-Z299.1, and N286.7. Additionally, Aecon maintains several CSA N285.0 Certificates of Authorization. Aecon’s N, NPT, NS & NA Stamps from the ASME, coupled with compliance to U.S. Federal Regulation 10CFR50 Appendix B, has extended Aecon’s reach to the U.S. and international nuclear markets.

Role Overview

This role supports the Retube Feeder & Boiler Replacement (RFBR) refurbishment project at the Pickering Nuclear Station. As a Cost Controller Co-op, you will support the project controls team in tracking, analyzing, and reporting project performance. You will gain exposure to cost control, scheduling, risk management, and other key areas of project management. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented student interested in pursuing a career in project management or engineering.

What You'll Do Here
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules using Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Support the preparation and analysis of cost reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Help maintain project documentation, including change orders, progress reports, and risk registers.
  • Assist in tracking project budgets and expenditures.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and status updates.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and finance teams.
  • Perform data entry, organization, and visualization using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with project management tools is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Coursework or experience in project management or control is preferred.
  • Familiarity with scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project) and/or cost tracking tools is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles is preferred.
