Job summary

Metrolinx is seeking a Project Coordinator for the Lakeshore West Drury Burloak Long Branch precinct within the Stations, Civils & Track program. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to advance design, construction, and relocation of transit infrastructure with emphasis on safety, timeliness and budget adherence.

The role requires a civil engineering technology background, five years of transit facilities experience, and strong project-management skills.

Qualifications

• A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
• Minimum five years’ experience in planning, design and construction of transit facilities.
• Knowledge of contract plans, specs and project coordination.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency in project management software and related tools.

Responsibilities

• Oversee consultants’ work to ensure compliance with standards, codes and requirements across all project stages.
• Coordinate engineering/architectural consultant services for new construction and alterations to facilities.
• Minimize customer impact, secure approvals, and manage design reviews and cost/schedule constraints.
• Coordinate with external agencies to comply with regulations and integrate external work.
• Assist in tender document preparation and support procurement during tendering.

The Stations, Civils & Track program is seeking a Project Coordinator for their Lakeshore West Drury Burloak Long Branch department who, reporting to the Manager, will coordinate with Internal and External Stakeholders to complete the design/construction/relocation of the assigned transit infrastructure projects as part of the Capital Projects Group in a safe, timely, consistent, and cost-effective manner.

Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $52.20

What will I be doing?

• Oversee the project work of consultants, to ensure compliance with Metrolinx’s Engineering Standards, Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements and internal user group requirements through all project stages, such as the preparation of environmental assessment documents, design proposals and reports, accessibility reports, contract specifications and drawings, and construction administration.
• Oversee engineering and/or architectural consultant services for the execution of infrastructure projects for new construction and alterations to existing fixed facilities.
• Coordinate projects to minimize customer impacts, facilitate internal and external approvals, and that design and cost dispute resolution and timely completion within established budget and schedule restrictions are adhered to. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to address design review comments; coordinate other projects interface.
• Coordinate engineering projects with external agencies including the Railways to ensure compliance with legislation, codes and the requirements of governing/regulatory authorities, including the incorporation of external agency work within GO Engineering Projects.
• Support in the preparation and submission of tender document specifications for construction and consultant contracts to the Procurement team for tendering. Assists Procurement team during tendering by providing information to contractors and consultants.
• Support the team during project completion and commissioning for handover to user group.
• Prepare project post evaluation reports including lesson learnt.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

• A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and coordinating contracted engineering projects. Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil engineering and architecture.
• Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures and applicable contract legislation.
• Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures is an asset.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
• Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
• This position requires the successful candidate to be present at various designated onsite locations as assigned by their leader, for a minimum of three (3) days each week. Additionally, as an operational business continuity functional coordinator, the candidate should be prepared to make visits during evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
• A valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License is required for regular site visits. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate.
