Project Coordinator (I) Facility Services

The Waterloo Region District School Board is situated in Canada’s innovation heartland, where we are innovating tomorrow by educating today. The Board provides a comprehensive educational program for approximately 64,000 students and is the seventh largest public school district in Ontario, with 16 secondary schools, 106 elementary schools, and approximately 11,000 staff members. Reporting to the Manager of Capital Projects, the incumbent will assist with all phases of new school construction, alterations/additions, building envelope retrofits, program enhancements, and major mechanical projects from design through to occupancy. The successful applicant will be a Level I Educational Support Staff member ($92,232-$106,574), working 40 hours per week, 12 months a year, starting as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
  1. Act as the Board’s representative for all construction and design aspects across the board.
  2. Evaluate needs and develop cost-effective options collaboratively.
  3. Work with architects and consultants on cost estimates and contract documents.
  4. Execute capital renewal projects with budgets up to $20M annually.
  5. Manage new construction projects up to $60M.
  6. Supervise architectural and engineering services.
  7. Liaise between consultants, contractors, staff, and regulatory officials.
  8. Monitor project progress and report findings.
  9. Perform contract administration tasks.
  10. Collaborate across Board departments and staff.
  11. Report project progress to senior management and Board meetings.
  12. Develop and maintain standards manuals for equipment and systems.
  13. Coordinate communication regarding project status, budget, and schedule.
  14. Review and approve invoicing and payments per legislation.
  15. Provide or arrange staff training on new building systems.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T), Certified Architectural Technologist, Architect, or Engineer.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience leading institutional building projects.
  • Strong knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems and codes.
  • Experience managing complex projects over $2.5M.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Fire and Building codes and municipal regulations.
  • Ability to review and prepare contract documents.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing; project management software; AutoCAD; Revit (asset).
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
