Job summary

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking a creative, dynamic professional to join our Energy Management team as a Project Coordinator for Controls/Building Automation Systems. Located in Ottawa, this 1.0 term assignment runs to February 26, 2027, with a 35 hour work week and ESP affiliation.

Under the supervision of the Team Manager, you will initiate, supervise and coordinate projects related to building systems, monitor performance, troubleshoot and provide technical support to

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Energy Systems Technology with 3–4 years related experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and HVAC systems and building automation.
  • OACETT certification is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of board policies, codes and OHSA.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, databases and Google Apps.
  • Analytical ability to interpret utility data and propose actions.
  • Strong writing and reporting skills; organized with good time management.
  • PM skills to manage construction projects and supervise contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate projects related to building systems and BAS performance.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot BAS and auxiliary equipment across sites.
  • Inspect BAS installations, coordinate repairs and travel to schools as needed.
  • Operate the Central Energy Monitoring and Control Systems (EMCS) and servers.
  • Provide technical support to custodial and maintenance staff on mechanical systems.

PROJECT COORDINATOR, CONTROL/BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEMS

Location: Facilities - Energy Management Dept; 1224 Stittsville Main Street
Position Status: 1.0 Term Assignment to February 26, 2027
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
Affiliation: OSSTF District 25 - Educational Support Professionals (ESP)
Salary range: ESP Level 8 - $64,280 to $ 80,877 per annum
Effective: Immediately

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Team Manager of Energy Management and Conservation Services, the Project Coordinator for Controls/Building Automation Systems is responsible for initiating, supervising and coordinating projects related to building systems, including monitoring systems performance; and troubleshooting and providing technical support to schools and administrative sites.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring ongoing energy conservation measures are maintained and encouraging the energy conservation ethic in all Board staff;
  • Monitoring and ensuring the operation of the Board’s building automation systems and auxiliary equipment located throughout the Board;
  • Inspecting and troubleshooting the BAS computer systems installed by contractors; initiating corrective action to repair problems; traveling to various schools for troubleshooting and completion of repairs;
  • Operating and maintaining the Central Energy Monitoring and Control Systems (EMCS) central computer system and servers;
  • Provides technical support and assistance to various custodial and maintenance staff on the operation of electrical and mechanical systems.
Qualifications
  • A community college diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Energy Systems Technology or a related field of study; and 3-4 years directly related experience, including project management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Good understanding of Electrical and HVAC systems/controls, and functions of building automation systems;
  • A professional certification from Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant Board policies and procedures, building codes/standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act, operating systems, procedures and techniques.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) for interacting with Board personnel and contractors; using tact, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Word, Excel, databases; Google Applications
  • Analytical skills to analyze and interpret utility reports and data and recommend necessary action.
  • Writing skills required correspondence and reports on energy conservation programs and developing operation control strategies.
  • Organization and time management skills required for organizing workload and juggling multiple and concurrent projects and demands.
  • Project Management skills to manage and supervise construction projects/sites, direct the work of contractors and ensure completion of projects.
