Job summary

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board invites applications for a School Library Technician at Agincourt Road Public School.

Location: Ottawa, Ontario. Position: 60% regular, part-time, 21 hours per week, 10 months per year. Salary: $27.22 to $33.67 per hour (Level 5). Effective: Immediately. The technician will support library operations, assist with cataloguing and research, and connect with virtual students via Google Meet.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Library and Information Technician and 1–2 years of library experience.
  • Understanding of cataloguing and classification systems.
  • Research skills required.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and databases; able to perform internet searches and use research tools.
  • Experience operating and maintaining library software.
  • Organizational skills to schedule classes and prioritize tasks and deadlines.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, including writing.
  • Ability to work in English and French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, maintain, select, order, and circulate print and non‑print materials.
  • Provide reference services and research support for units of study.
  • Perform public relations, supervisory and clerical activities.
  • Connect with virtual students via Google Meet for read alouds and related activities.

SCHOOL LIBRARY TECHNICIAN

Location: Agincourt Road Public School
Position Status: 60% Regular, part-time
Work Year: 10 months per year

*Please note: In addition to in-person students, Agincourt also has virtual students. The Library Technician must also connect with virtual students via Google Meet for read alouds, etc.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Principal or designate, the Library Technician will provide technical and public services and perform other duties related to library operations such as organize, maintain, select, order, circulate print and non-print materials, provide reference services, research and prepare support materials for units of study, and perform public relations, supervisory and clerical activities.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in Library and Information Technician, and 1 to 2 years of library experience.
  • Understandingof Cataloguing and classification systems.
  • Research skills required;
  • Proficiency in computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets and databases), ability to perform internet searches and use research tools.
  • Experience operating and maintaining library software.
  • Organizational skills required to schedule classes/small groups and prioritize concurrent tasks and deadlines.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required, including writing communication skills.
  • The ability to use tact, judgment and diplomacy when dealing with staff, students, parents/volunteers.
  • The ability to work in both English and French is an asset.
