Facilities Projects Project Controls Specialist, Calgary, AB

If you are an expert in Project Controls and Cost Controls for major projects and are seeking a new role in a dynamic team, then we want to hear from you! The MEG Energy Facilities Projects team is expanding with an opportunity for an energetic self-starter who is looking to take on a critical role in directly supporting the business through the preparation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our Project Controls development, control, and reporting. If you are a forward-thinking individual looking for a new and exciting opportunity, with significant growth and learning potential while improving processes and policies, then this is the role for you!

Your day-to-day will include:
  • Provide and demonstrate safety leadership in accordance with MEG programs, inspiring and motivating others to ensure safety in all activities and taking care of themselves and others.
  • Champion the Project Controls and Cost Control activities associated with projects, including:
    • Tracking and reporting budgets, changes, trends, potentials, current budget, forecast, and variances to budget.
    • Collecting, verifying, and compiling actuals, incurred, committed costs, and progress, including cost investigations to ensure data quality.
    • Calculating and reporting productivity, performance, earned value, and variances.
    • Identifying areas of concern and potential impacts on project financial performance, and reporting unfavorable variances for management decision-making.
    • Working closely with contractors to review their reporting for accuracy.
    • Monthly review of remaining work, producing forecasts and graphs.
    • Developing and reviewing cash flows.
    • Compiling and reporting monthly outlooks to the corporate financial group, ensuring accuracy of capital spend forecasts and accruals.
    • Tracking weekly labor costs to keep spending within budget, making adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure proper implementation of cost control measures.
  • Perform other functions as required by the Project Controls Manager, such as scope analysis, ad hoc reporting, and supporting other project control activities.
  • Maintain respectful and collaborative relations with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Uphold ethical standards in all activities, aligned with MEG’s policies.
What you will bring to MEG:
  • 7+ years of experience in project controls and cost controls.
  • Post-secondary education with a technical diploma or bachelor’s degree.
  • Project management certification or formal training in cost control is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls functions, including planning, scheduling, cost estimating, change management, and project finance systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of managing multidiscipline meetings efficiently.
  • Expertise in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard cost control software such as Prism Project Manager, LEM systems, etc., is a strong asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, self-starter with minimal supervision and willingness to travel periodically.
