Job summary

PCL Industrial Management Inc. in Edmonton is seeking a Project Controls Coordinator to support project managers and superintendents with cost and scheduling on construction projects.

The role emphasizes leading a multi-disciplinary controls team, analyzing cost trends, and producing weekly/monthly progress reports while adhering to control processes.

Qualifications

• Construction trade cert or post-secondary in construction management/engineering preferred.
• Relevant designation is an asset.
• 3 years of project controls experience in construction or related field.
• Experience mentoring on scheduling and forecasting resources (materials, staff, equipment).
• Understanding contract language; ability to identify/mitigate risks and opportunities.
• Experience with a contractor is preferred.
• Knowledge of engineering and construction management principles.
• Understanding PM functions: scheduling, cost control, forecasting, change management, document control.
• Knowledge of estimating methods.
• Proficiency with MS Office and internal systems.

Responsibilities

• Participates and leads a multi-disciplinary project controls team (scheduling and planning, estimating, cost-control, subcontract, and document control).
• Collaborates with construction/project manager and project team; identifies and resolves schedule issues and develops recovery plans.
• Analyzes and communicates trending schedule, progress, and cost information.
• Supervises and mentors project teams on site or multiple sites in project controls.
• Communicates scope changes to budgets and schedules and identifies variances from the plan.
• Participates in scope and change management; ensures estimates/impact analyses are issued.
• Provides input to monthly cost and schedule reports and other key management reports.
• Creates weekly and monthly progress reports.
• Interprets productivity rates, OFW/LCRs, and cost reports.
• Adheres to project control processes and procedures.

Here’s how a Project Controls Coordinator for PCL Industrial Management Inc. contributes to our team:

• Participates and leads a multi-disciplinary project controls team (scheduling and planning, estimating, cost-control, subcontract, and document control).
• Collaborates with construction/project manager and project team. Proactively identifies, handles, and resolves potential problems, work issues, or schedule challenges. Develops and implements recovery plan. Works with project team to anticipate and resolve project issues.
• Analyzes and communicates the trending schedule, progress, and cost information to project personnel.
• Supervises, directs, coaches, trains, and mentors the project team and superintendents on the same site or multiple sites, as it relates to project controls.
• Communicates with the project teams to define scope of work, need for change to budgets and schedules, and identification of variances from the original plan.
• Participates in the project scope and change management process and ensures accurate completion and issuance of estimates or impact analyses to partners.
• Actively provides input towards monthly cost and schedule reports and other key management reports.
• Creates the project weekly and monthly progress reports.
• Understands and interprets productivity rates or own forces work (OFW), Labor Cost Reports (LCRs), and ability to interpret cost reports.
• Adheres to project control processes and procedures.

Qualifications

• Construction trade certification with equivalent experience, or post‑secondary diploma or degree in construction management or engineering preferred.
• Relevant designation is an asset.
• 3 years of project controls experience in construction or related field.
• Experience mentoring others on schedule, monitoring forecast resources at a high level (e.g., materials, staff, equipment).
• An understanding of contract language and ability to identify and mitigate risks and identify and leverage opportunities.
• Experience working for a contractor is preferred.
• Working knowledge of engineering and construction management principles and practices.
• An understanding of all project management functions including scheduling and planning, cost control and forecasting, progressing, change management and document control.
• Working knowledge of estimating methods and practices.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and internal operational systems and is up to date with all current technology.
