Our office in Toronto is seeking a Project Controller to join our downtownToronto team.

This is a position to work on projects in the rail (High Speed, Metro, LRT, streetcars) industry in the Toronto office. This is an intermediate role.

This role involves overseeing project finances from start to finish, including extracting data from project management systems, managing resources and budgets, and more. Responsibilities include financial forecasting, tracking project costs, analyzing discrepancies, attending meetings, aiding internal processes, and providing regular reports to management.

The Project Controller will support the Director of Operations & Engineering, and collaborate closely with project managers, stakeholders, and the accounting department to ensure projects stay within budget and meet deadlines.

Project Controller Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain project budgets in collaboration with project managers and accounting department
  • Prepare financial forecasts and analyze variances to ensure projects stay within budgetary constraints
  • Assist in the development of project financial strategies and recommend cost-saving measures where possible.
  • Monitor project costs and expenditures throughout the project lifecycle
  • Track expenses, review invoices and reconcile financial discrepancies
  • Identify potential cost overruns or underutilization of funds and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare regular financial reports and updates for project stakeholders and management
  • Provide analysis of project financial performance, highlighting key metrics and trends
  • Identify financial risks and potential issues that may impact project delivery

Requirements of the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience as a project controller or similar role in project management
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Rail & transit experience is a strong asset
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and practices
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Engineering background is an asset
  • Strong capacity to extract data from multiple sources
  • Excellent communication skills written and spoken
  • Good Knowledge of MS-Office suite, with advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Must be living local to the Toronto area
