Job Description

Osler is looking to recruit an individual with project management and process design experience that is passionate about health care innovation and transformation. The success of the Project Consultant role is contingent upon the incumbent’s ability to demonstrate a deep understanding of project management and LEAN principles, to execute solid improvements using LEAN principles and to employ change management methodologies as required to ensure successful outcomes for all internal and regional projects the surgical and ambulatory program is engaged in.


This role functions as an internal consultant to implement patient-focused improvement initiatives that are measurable and sustainable, utilizing LEAN, continuous improvement and change management methodologies while pursuing both the efficient utilization of resources/processes and a safe environment for patients and staff.


Accountabilities:

  1. Coordinate and execute clinical best practice quality improvement initiatives for corporate Surgical and Ambulatory Services.
  2. Coordinate program clinical priority project working groups, utilizing various quality improvement methodologies and business applications throughout the project cycle, while applying LEAN principles.
  3. Work collaboratively with Surgical and Ambulatory Services leaders in the development and approval of program clinical policies, procedures, processes and practices to assure continuous conformance with appropriate standards.
  4. Support clinical planning teams by organizing and facilitating process design sessions to develop work and patient flow processes, that efficiently utilize space and other resources, for all clinical services planned for the Surgical and Ambulatory Services.
  5. Collaborate with other internal process improvement consultants, project managers and transition planning team members to ensure operational readiness.
  6. Facilitate clinical process reviews and working group discussions to identify process improvements, ensure they are suitable, effective and compliant by involving the appropriate subject matter experts.
  7. Create processes for new service delivery models.
  8. Coordinate process and quality improvement activities, including process mapping, value stream mapping and rapid improvement events, with internal programs to promote organizational effectiveness and prevent overlapping goals and activities.
  9. Support the successful implementation of the process improvement recommendations.
  10. Support and coach teams in the development and implementation of Lean and continuous process/quality improvement initiatives with a focus on achieving measurable and sustainable results.
  11. Develop and implement evaluation methodologies to measure the outcomes and impact.
  12. Apply change management principles, methodologies and tools to improve outcomes.
  13. Manage the improvement projects ensuring prioritization, governance, tracking, and measurement of the various work streams within the initiative.
  14. Provide appropriate summary documentation in keeping with gating procedures to ensure approval at key milestones of the project.
  15. Escalate appropriately to senior leadership any issues or challenges that are irresolvable and may impact deliverables/timelines.
  16. Leads clinical priority projects through the project cycle (planning, development, implementation and evaluation) utilizing a structured project management framework.
  17. Leads and guides project stakeholders through the process of the project development, implementation and evaluation of the project components.
  18. Collaborates with program leadership to assess team readiness and coordinate multiple project timelines.
  19. Coordinates meeting resources (room, teleconferencing) and schedules with stakeholders project meetings.
  20. Communicates routinely utilizing structured tools (project charter, meeting agendas and project status reports and Gantt charts) with the project stakeholders to ensure the goals, objectives and timelines of the project are met.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent required.
  2. Master degree in health administration or business administration required.
  3. Project Management certification is preferred.
  4. LEAN Black Belt certification with extensive experience with LEAN methodologies preferred.
  5. Formal change management training and certifications is preferred.
  6. Experience process mapping, value stream mapping and identifying leverage points in hospital clinical areas.
  7. Experience with capital redevelopment projects an asset.
  8. Must have more than five years of experience in health care or related field.
  9. More than five years of process improvement application experience within a complex matrix environment is strongly desired.
  10. Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing process improvements in a clinical environment, coupled with strong project management expertise.
  11. Demonstrated success in implementing change and effectively managing process improvement resistance.
  12. Proven track record in developing strong relationships and trust with key stakeholders by delivering on commitments.
  13. Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
  14. Superior communication, facilitation, influencing and negotiation skills are required.

Additional Information

DURATION: Approximately eighteen (18) months or until the previous incumbent returns.


Hours: Currently days, Monday to Friday in an onsite first role that frequently supports direct patient care and has dedicated hours when they are available to patients, team members and/or other partners (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements).


Annual salary:
Minimum: $85,839.00
Maximum: $107,308.50.
