Job summary

Salas O’Brien Canada Inc. in Toronto, ON is seeking a Project Associate for Building Science to join our Restoration Team.

You will support building science and restoration projects through condition assessments, design development, and site reviews across residential, commercial, institutional, federal and healthcare sectors. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or applied science.
  • Working knowledge of building codes and standards.
  • Experience with concrete and masonry restoration, structural waterproofing, and steel restoration preferred.
  • Project management skills with ability to work on multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct construction field reviews, monitoring progress and conformity to codes, and prepare reports.
  • Conduct building condition assessments, capital plans, and investigations for clients.
  • Prepare reports, analyses, designs, plans, details and specs for renovations.
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications and terms of reference.
  • Prioritize and deliver multiple projects from start to finish with supervision.
  • Liaise with clients, design teams and contractors to ensure compliance and on-time delivery.
  • Resolve problems by interpreting specifications and addressing field engineering challenges.
  • Work with senior engineers and other disciplines as needed.

Job Summary:

Our office in Toronto is looking for a Project Associate- Building Science to join our growing Restoration Team. In this role, you will support a variety of building science and restoration projects by assisting with condition assessments of buildings and structures, design development, construction contract administrations and site reviews to our building science projects in areas such as residential, commercial, institutional, federal and healthcare.

Building Sciences Project Associate, Toronto, ON
Here are the details of your duties in this role:
  • Conduct construction field reviews, which includes monitoring progress according to specifications, and conformity to building codes and standards, and preparing reports
  • Conduct building and structure condition assessments, capital plans, and investigations for various clients.
  • Prepare reports, analysis and design, plans, details and specifications for additions/modifications/renovations to residential, commercial and industrial buildings
  • Prepare construction Working Drawings, Specifications and Terms of Reference
  • Prioritize and deliver multiple projects, from beginning to end, with supervision
  • Liaise with clients, design team consultants and contractors to ensure all project work is compliant with the design documents, while ensuring the projects will be delivered on time and on budget
  • Uses initiative and judgment to resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate design and field engineering difficulties
  • Some knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering is preferred
  • Work with Senior Engineers; taking direction as/when required
Your Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in applied science, Architecture, or Engineering from an accredited University
  • Working knowledge of building codes and standards
  • Experience with concrete and masonry restoration, structural waterproofing systems, and structural steel restoration is preferred.
  • Project management skills with the ability to work with a design team and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; including technical writing
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic team-oriented environment
  • Computer literate and proficient in the use of relevant computer applications, including developed skills in Word and Excel.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle with a valid Ontario Driver’s License for travel to client sites
  • Ability to work overtime when required
  • Comfortable working in active construction and restoration environments, performing site reviews, and coordinating directly with contractors to address project and construction-related issues.
  • May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces.
Travel:

Up to 30%

The expected base salary range for this role is $65,000 to 70,000CAD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.

This role is also eligible forperformance-based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including:
