Kindred Construction Ltd. is seeking a Project Accountant to support a portfolio of construction projects and work closely with the Finance team.

This role reports to the Finance Director and involves preparing project financials, billing, and payables with a focus on accuracy and timely deliverables. The ideal candidate has a post-secondary accounting credential and 5+ years in construction accounting, with strong Excel/Word skills and a team-oriented mindset.

• Manage vendor invoices for assigned projects.
• Prepare pre-billing reports for Project Managers.

• Process holdback reconciliations and payments.
• Ensure timely project closeout procedures and filing.
• Process accounts payable for assigned jobs as directed.
• Provide excellent service with high-quality work.

• Implement procedural or software changes as directed by leadership.
• Perform other accounting duties as required.

Our Finance Team thrives in a vibrant, busy, collaborative team environment at Kindred HQ. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Project Accountant will be assigned a selection of construction projects to administer and will provide support to those Project teams, while working closely with other members of the Finance department.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Support a portfolio of projects and teams on project financials as assigned by the Finance Director
• Meet specific timelines for issuing client progress billings monthly or as needed
• Review project budgets and fee structures to ensure accuracy of work in progress
• Manage vendor invoices for assigned projects
• Prepare pre-billing reports for Project Managers to review
• Work with trades and suppliers on project invoicing, holdback releases and associated documentation
• Process holdback reconciliations for release of trade holdback payments
• Ensure project close out procedures are completed timely; complete project filing as needed
• Process and prepare accounts payable payments for assigned jobs as needed/directed
• Provide excellent customer service while providing quality of work that consistently meets expectations
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Project Managers, Coordinators and other members of the finance and Kindred teams
• Ensure all assigned functions are carried out in compliance with approved policies, controls and standard practices
• Implement procedural or software changes identified and rolled out by Senior Leadership
• Other accounting duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• General accounting knowledge obtained through experience and/or education
  • Post‑secondary degree or diploma in accounting, and;
  • 5+ years of applicable construction accounting experience
• Excellent problem‑solving skills
• Possess and maintain advanced computer skills with proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
• Familiarity with accounting software - Spectrum by Viewpoint considered an asset.

• Willingness and initiative to learn from our Finance team to develop accounting skills such as the BC Lien Act and PST regulations relevant to the construction industry including attending internal or external courses as required
