Job description

Programmer II - Events, Volunteers and Film

1 Temporary Full-Time Position - Up to One Year

The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs.

You'll work within a team where service excellence, learning and sharing, and feedback and accountability are highly valued, and where communication, trust, respect, and positivity form the foundation for everything we do.

The Community Services Division is seeking an experienced Programmer II to lead the Events, Volunteers and Film portfolio. This temporary assignment provides an opportunity to coordinate high-profile community programs and services that connect residents, organizations and visitors with Saanich through events, volunteer engagement and film activity.

The Programmer II is responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting and evaluating District events and festivals; supporting permitting for third‑party events; overseeing the volunteer services portfolio, including supervision and direction of a Programmer I; and coordinating film activities and related permits within Saanich. The role also develops and maintains community partnerships, provides recommendations on service delivery, supports strategic initiatives and projects, participates in budget development, monitors expenditures and revenues, and helps ensure effective use of public resources.

Requirements include a university degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies or a related field, together with three years of experience in event production and recreation programming. Program specialty certification is required where applicable. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than six months, with renewal required as per policy. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence is required as applicable to the position. Priority will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience with event and festival production, especially if in a municipal environment.

The successful candidate will normally work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week), with evening and weekend work as needed to support events, programs and operational requirements. This is a temporary full‑time position for up to one year. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted. Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $54.10 per hour (2026 rate) plus 15% in lieu of benefits.
