Control Tech Ltd. in Calgary is seeking an experienced Honeywell Experion PKS DCS Programmer to design, configure, implement, test, commission, and support complex control systems for industrial clients.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial automation experience with at least 3 years working directly with Honeywell Experion PKS systems.
  • Experience with Honeywell Experion PKS components and configuration tools.
  • Ability to travel to client sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, configure, and maintain Honeywell Experion PKS control strategies and system architecture.
  • Configure Control Builder, Continuous Control, Sequential Control, and Advanced Control applications.
  • Design and develop Experion HMI graphics, operator displays, alarms, trends, and historian integrations.
  • Configure Experion servers, stations, engineering environments, and networked control infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement control narratives, functional design specifications, and cause-and-effect matrices.
  • Perform DCS software testing, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing Experion control systems to improve reliability and performance.
  • Configure and integrate third-party control systems, PLCs, analyzers, and field devices.
  • Assist with migration projects from legacy Honeywell and third-party DCS systems.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives and compliance with industrial control system standards.
  • Generate and maintain project documentation, including operating procedures, network architecture drawings, and control system documentation.
  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams during startup and ongoing facility operations.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and execution activities.
  • Participate and comply with company safety programs and company policies.
  • Other duties as required.

Salary Range:

$100,000.00 To $140,000.00 Annually

Job Brief:

The Honeywell Experion DCS Programmer provides technical expertise in the design, configuration, programming, testing, commissioning, and support of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for industrial clients. This role is primarily focused on Honeywell Experion PKS environments and associated control systems. The successful candidate will support projects throughout all phases, including design, development, factory testing, commissioning, startup, and ongoing operational support.

The Honeywell Experion DCS Programmer works closely with clients, engineers, project managers, and field personnel to develop reliable, efficient, and maintainable process control solutions for industrial facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develop, configure, and maintain Honeywell Experion PKS control strategies and system architecture.
  • Configure Control Builder, Continuous Control, Sequential Control, and Advanced Control applications.
  • Design and develop Experion HMI graphics, operator displays, alarms, trends, and historian integrations.
  • Configure Experion servers, stations, engineering environments, and networked control infrastructure.

  • Perform DCS software testing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing Experion control systems to improve reliability and performance.
  • Configure and integrate third-party control systems, PLCs, analyzers, and field devices.
  • Assist with migration projects from legacy Honeywell and third-party DCS systems.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives and compliance with industrial control system standards.

Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial automation experience with at least 3 years working directly with Honeywell Experion PKS systems.

  • Experience developing and implementing DCS control strategies.
  • Strong understanding of process control fundamentals including PID control, sequencing logic, alarming, and process optimization.
  • Experience interpreting:
    • P&IDs
    • Electrical Drawings
    • Loop Drawings
    • Control Narratives
    • Cause and Effect Matrices
  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and operational troubleshooting activities.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to travel to client sites as required.
  • Experience with Schneider Electric, Allen-Bradley, Emerson DeltaV, ABB, or Siemens control systems considered an asset.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR with AED, H2S Alive.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
  • Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
