Job summary

Government of Nunavut seeks a Program Officer reporting to the Manager, Community Economic Development to deliver resources, information and training enabling Nunavummiut to make informed choices about community development.

Role focuses on regional and community economic development, marketing and product distribution, and collaboration with departments to expand Nunavut’s economy, including renewable and non-renewable resource usage in traditional and non-traditional ways.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Economic Development, Commerce, Renewable Resource Management, Land Use Planning, Public or Business Administration and two years related work experience.
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers initiatives to facilitate provision of resources, information and training necessary for Nunavummiut to make informed decisions about community development.
  • Contributes to regional domestic and international marketing, promotion and product distribution, regional and community economic development and transportation capital and social infrastructure.
  • Supports the expansion and diversification of Nunavut’s economy via programs and budgets of Government of Nunavut departments and crown corporations when entering into joint economic ventures.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Economic Development, the Program Officer delivers initiatives to facilitate provision of resources, information and training necessary for Nunavummiut to make informed decisions about community development.

This position has a general impact on the Department, its branches and divisions. More direct impacts are: intra and inter regional consistency in program delivery; regional domestic and international marketing, promotion and product distribution; regional and community economic development and transportation capital and social infrastructure; success of regional businesses; nunavummiut across the territory who intend to become more economically self supporting through business development, training and job opportunities; strategies which enable communities to enjoy individual economic success as they attempt to promote and sustain a viable local economy; the successful expansion and diversification of Nunavut’s economy; programs and budgets of Government of Nunavut departments and crown corporations, Nunavut Land Claims Agreement agencies, federal departments and crown corporations and partnering agencies when entering into joint economic venture; community services Nunavut Land Claim Agreement economic obligations; and the use of renewable and non‑renewable resources in traditional and non-traditional ways.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job would be attained through a University degree in Economic Development, Commerce, Renewable Resource Management, Land Use Planning, Public or Business Administration and two years related work experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
