The Canadian Olympic Committee, headquartered in Toronto, seeks a Program Manager, Sport & Sustainability, to advance its Climate Action Plan and measure environmental impact across operations and events.

You will develop programs, reporting processes, and stakeholder partnerships, working with NSOs, IOC and Indigenous communities, while ensuring embedded environmental responsibility with a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience delivering a sustainability program within a corporate organization.
• Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in Sustainability or related field.
• 4-6 years of experience delivering environmental sustainability, climate action, ESG or corporate sustainability initiatives.
• Experience in sport, events, entertainment, non-profit or membership-based sector is an asset.

PROGRAM MANAGER, SPORT AND SUSTAINABILITY

We are the largest private supporter of high-performance sport in Canada and we are responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including the participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games.

Reporting to the Director, Sport Business & Sustainability, the Program Manager, Sport & Sustainability will play a central role in advancing the COC's environmental sustainability strategy and Climate Action Plan. This position drives the COC’s efforts to measure, manage, and reduce environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, while supporting progress toward our 2030 and 2040 emissions reduction targets. Working across departments and with partners throughout the Canadian and international sport system, the Program Manager develops programs, policies, reporting processes, and stakeholder partnerships that advance sustainability objectives and embed environmental responsibility into the COC’s operations, events, and decision-making.

LOCATION

This position will be located in one of the COC’s offices (Montreal, QC, at 500 René-Lévesque Boulevard West; or in Toronto, ON at 250 Yonge St. Suite 3000). We offer a hybrid work model that allows for up to two days of remote work each week.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES

• Lead the implementation and evolution of the COC Climate Action Plan
• Support the development of the organization's climate transition plan
• Identify emerging environmental sustainability issues, risks and opportunities relevant to the sport sector.
• Develop and manage the quadrennial budget, including forecasting and reforecasting activities.

Carbon Management & Reporting

• Establish systems and evolve existing ones to track and evaluate sustainability performance and impact
• Review, update and upscale relevant KPIs, baselines, targets and dashboards to measure progress
• Complete annual greenhouse gas inventory
• Manage reporting obligations under the UN Sport for Climate Action Framework
• Monitor progress against sustainability objectives
• Use data and evidence to identify areas for improvement and demonstrate the value/impact of sustainability initiatives
• Ensure sustainability claims are accurate, transparent, and appropriately supported by evidence
• Prepare reports for Senior Leadership Team and Board committees
• Work with the Communications & Digital teams to identify relevant storytelling on how the COC and Team Canada athletes contribute to sustainable sport

Program Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert for Sustainability for the organization
• Lead sustainability projects from concept through implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement
• Coordinate sustainability initiatives and campaigns, including Green Sport Day
• Support the Marketing Partnerships team in activating future sustainability-focused partnerships
• Identify funding opportunities and grant applications (e.g. IOC Olympic Solidarity and others)
• Support sustainability-related athlete engagement initiatives
• Liaise with NSOs, COPSIN, IOC and other partners
• Participate in the UN, ANOC, IOC working groups to advance sport & climate action
• Cultivate relationships with researchers and Indigenous communities to advance sustainability initiatives and maximize impact

Training & Policy Development

• Help foster a culture where sustainability is viewed as a shared responsibility rather than a standalone function
• Collaborate across departments to develop and implement policies and guidelines related to key environmental impact areas (e.g. procurement, events, business travel, legal compliance, environmental risk management).
• Create and deliver employee training programs, tailored to relevant departments and teams (e.g. sustainable events, sustainable procurement practices, environmental reporting, effective communication, website content, etc.)
• Support implementation of sustainable procurement, travel and event practices
• Other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITICAL SKILLS

Education and Experience

• Demonstrated experience delivering a sustainability program within a corporate organization
• Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in Sustainability or a related field
• 4-6 years of experience delivering environmental sustainability, climate action, ESG or corporate sustainability initiatives
• Experience in the sport, events, entertainment, non-profit or membership-based sector is considered an asset
• Experience conducting or supporting greenhouse gas inventories and climate reporting activities
• Experience with sustainability reporting frameworks, greenhouse gas accounting methodologies and target-setting approaches such as the GHG Protocol and SBTi

Skills and Abilities

• Professional proficiency in both English and French (written and spoken) is required
• A general appreciation and understanding of the global and sporting contexts in which the COC works (Major Games operations, Brand & Commercial regulations, international sport landscape, etc.)
• Strong understanding of sustainability principles, environmental issues, and their impact on businesses, including knowledge of sustainability frameworks/standards such as SBTi, GHG Protocol, and the Sport For Climate Action Framework.
• Proven ability to lead and deliver sustainability initiatives and programs
• Collaborative and relationship-oriented, with the ability to communicate effective with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills, with an ability to produce written reports, guidelines, presentations, and other materials
• Strong stakeholder management, influencing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to navigate complex cross-functional environments
• Ability to adapt to change, with a problem-solving mindset
• Ability to manage multiple initiatives at the same time
• Strong project management skills and an ability to meet deadlines
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

Commitment

• Possibility of occasional national travel or infrequent international travel

COMPENSATION

The expected salary range for this role is $65,400 to $89,900 per year. The base pay within this range is based on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal pay equity, and market benchmarks.
