Job summary

Niagara-on-the-Lake is seeking enthusiastic, dependable Program Leaders to deliver recreation programs, day camps, and outdoor activities for all ages. You will supervise staff and volunteers, prepare lesson plans, and support events at municipal facilities and parks.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading or supervising recreation programs or day camps.
  • Experience providing customer service and working with diverse groups.
  • Enrollment in Recreation and Leisure, Child Studies, or related field is an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C with AED certification.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Class G driver’s license required for Play in the Park program.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, welcoming environment and enforce rules.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays and school breaks.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, facilitate, and deliver year-round recreation programs and day camps.
  • Supervise participants, staff, and volunteers; ensure safety and inclusion.
  • Prepare lesson plans, materials, and activity setups; maintain spaces.
  • Support Play in the Park outdoor programming and equipment handling.
  • Implement safety procedures, sign-in/out, and behaviour management.
  • Assist with facility events including setup, supervision, and take-down.
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent the Town professionally.
  • Collaborate with departments to support operations and community initiatives.

Job description

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and customer-focused Program Leaders to deliver safe, engaging, and inclusive recreation programs, day camps, and outdoor activities for all ages. Reporting to the Recreation Program Specialist, this role supports program delivery, facility operations, and community engagement while providing hands-on supervision and instruction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, facilitate, and deliver year-round recreation programs, drop-in activities, registered programs, and seasonal day camps.
  • Supervise participants, staff, and volunteers, ensuring safety, inclusion, and a positive environment.
  • Prepare lesson plans, materials, and activity setups, and maintain organized program spaces.
  • Facilitate outdoor programming through the Play in the Park initiative, including transporting, setting up, and taking down mobile equipment.
  • Implement safety procedures, sign-in/out protocols, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Support facility events, including set-up, supervision, coordination, and take-down.
  • Provide excellent customer service, respond to inquiries, and represent the Town in a professional and positive manner.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other Town departments to support operational needs and community initiatives.
