Job summary

Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre is seeking a Program Assistant to support perinatal programs including the Infant Feeding Program, 5Ps, and GST. The role provides essential back-up to the IFP Coordinator, helps coordinate lactation support, and contributes to program evaluation and client engagement data.

The successful candidate will assist with pre- and post-natal programs, maintain inventory and documentation, and support the food bank and donation efforts across 5Ps and GST

Qualifications

  • Post secondary diploma/certificate in relevant field and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, internet browsing.
  • Three years work experience in a non-profit or community health centre environment is considered a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of the Parkdale Community and parenting/family support resources in Parkdale.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing IFP supply inventory in collaboration with the Project Coordinator.
  • Provide occasional back-up support to the IFP Coordinator in allocation & distribution of supplies and lactation support services for registered clients.
  • Assist with the delivery of the monthly IFP breastfeeding circle.
  • Collect and collate client feedback to support ongoing IFP program evaluation.
  • Support staff and clients in weekly pre- and post-natal programs.
  • Gather and maintain accurate client engagement data and complete group encounters using EMR or other tools.
  • Track e-voucher and presto ticket inventory and ensure timely, accurate distribution to program participants.
  • Provide support for the food bank program and backup for the Food Room Worker when needed.
  • Support program staff with preparation and maintenance of client database documentation.
  • Assist with maintenance of the donation program across 5Ps & GST programs.
  • Attend and contribute to debriefing meetings, when appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reporting to the Admin Supervisor, Health Promotion, the Program Assistant provides general assistance each week to PQWCHC’s perinatal programs: Infant Feeding Program (IFP), Parkdale Parents Primary Prevention Project (5Ps), and Great Start Together (GST). The 5Ps & GST programs support multi-stressed families with young children 0-6 years of age. The Infant Feeding Program provides support to new parents to meet their breastfeeding and other infant nutrition needs across three programs: 5Ps, GST, and Healthy Beginnings at The Stop Community Food Centre.

General Responsibilities:

Qualifications:
  • Post secondary diploma/certificate in relevant field and proficiency in commonly used software applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, internet browsing, etc.).
  • Three years work experience in a non-profit or community health centre environment is considered a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of the Parkdale Community and parenting/family support resources in Parkdale.
  • Experience and understanding of the issues related to newcomers and multi stressed families.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of women’s health issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to function both as a team player and independently.
  • Ability to perform the full range of duties as required in this position including some lifting of weight (up to 40 lbs).
  • Experience working in a feminist, anti-oppression framework.
  • Fluency in a language relevant to the Parkdale community, in addition to English is an asset.
  • Food Handling Certification is an asset
Compensation:

$41,547 to $50,021 per annum, plus Group Benefits and HOOPP (Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan).

Please also note that the successful candidate will be required to provide a police vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment, however strong consideration is made to the type of offense. Employment is conditional upon having had a full series of COVID-19 vaccinations (2 doses, plus booster within 6-12 months) 14 days before starting employment.
