Job summary

Carefor is seeking an ADP Assistant to provide personal support to individuals in the Day Program within Carefor policies. You will collaborate closely with the program team to plan and implement activities that help clients reach their goals.

Reporting to the Supervisor, you will assist with personal care, support participation, and maintain safety. IPAC measures are part of daily responsibilities, and you will attend in-service sessions to stay current with policies.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Social Services with focus areas including dementia studies and personal support work.
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate preferred.
  • Current CPR Level C Certificate preferred.

  • Assist clients with personal care including eating, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Support clients to participate as fully as possible in day program activities and ensure safety.

Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, the ADP Assistant provides personal support to individuals in the Day Program within the framework of Carefor policies and procedures and collaborates closely with members of the program team with the planning and implementation of program activities.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the ADP Program Coordinator regarding types of programs to be developed to achieve individual goals of clients.
  • Assists clients with personal care including eating, toileting, and personal hygiene when necessary.
  • Supports the clients to participate as fully as possible in day program activities.
  • Ensures safety and security measures for all participating clients.
  • Recommends modifications to programs to suit the evolving needs of clients.
  • Assists with the implementation of group activities based on clients’ interests and levels of ability.
  • Organizes supplies, equipment, and resources for the programs
  • Assists with the completion of progress notes and other documentation related to assessments and action plans.
  • Assists with the evaluation of client progress and of the program.
  • Adheres to all Carefor policies and procedures.
  • Implements all IPAC measures as needed.
  • Participates effectively as a team member.
  • Attends planned in-service and educational sessions.
  • Functions and reports in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and Carefor policies and procedures.
  • Participates in health and safety training including WHMIS and applies this knowledge in the workplace
  • Wears or uses any/all protective equipment or clothing provided by Carefor and does not interfere with protective devices as to change or negate their functions
  • Reports the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device, and which may endanger self or other worker
  • Reports any violations of the Health and Safety Act or the regulations, or the existence of any hazard
  • Does not use or operate any equipment, machine, device, or work in a manner that may endanger self or other worker
  • Ensures all workplace incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with legislation, and Carefor policies and procedures for workplace injuries and incidents (eg. WSIB injuries, infection control)
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Social Services with concentration in dementia studies, Recreation and Leisure, Development Services, Personal Support Worker
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate preferred
  • Current CPR level C Certificate preferred
  • Up to date immunizations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus and Diphtheria preferred
  • Experience working with the older adults with special needs (frailty, dementia, mental health) and memory care
  • Experience with memory care
  • Experience working in a team setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with clients, caregivers, staff, health care professionals, service agencies both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Physical ability to perform duties such as standing for long periods, squatting, bending to assist clients with activities of daily living and lifting (chairs and tables)
