Job summary

Jobtailor in Milton, Ontario is seeking a program assistant to support safe, welcoming learning experiences for participants. You will assist with program implementation, prepare lesson plans, set up equipment, and help supervise volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 10 education.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C.
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Courses in art, early childhood education, recreation or related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of art, design and/or craft preferred.
  • Experience working with children of various age groups preferred.
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities preferred.
  • An interest in performing arts/drama/music/dance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Must attend mandatory staff functions.
  • Must comply with health and safety practices, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Responsibilities

  • Assist with program implementation with a focus on quality customer experiences
  • Assist with preparation and delivery of lesson plans
  • Provide a safe, well-supervised, welcoming and positive learning environment
  • Prepare materials and program space according to lesson plans
  • Set up and take down required equipment
  • Provide guidance and oversight of volunteers
  • Establish positive relationships and clear communication with staff and participants
  • Maintain a safe and clean facility and ensure proper equipment usage
  • Communicate program needs, facility deficiencies and equipment concerns to operations staff and supervisors
  • Evaluate and address potential risks
  • Maintain communication with the customer service desk regarding program updates and emergencies
  • Provide supplies lists to the Supervisor, Recreation
  • Maintain accurate attendance and administrative records
  • Report incidents, concerns and site damage to the Coordinator, Culture
