Job summary

Niagara College invites applications for a Professor, Welding at the Welland Campus, commencing October 2026. The role reports to the Associate Dean and leads academic excellence in welding curriculum and learning environments.

The successful candidate will design, deliver and assess welding courses, collaborate with faculty and industry partners, and mentor diverse learners to prepare students for careers in welding and related trades.

Responsibilities

• Design, revise and update courses/curriculum for welding.
• Teach assigned welding courses to students.

• Define course objectives and assess student understanding of objectives.
• Utilize varied instructional mediums and resources.
• Provide individualized instruction where necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Located in the heart of the Niagara Region - just minutes from one of the world's most well-known tourism destinations - Niagara College offers more than 130 innovative programs between our campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Applications are invited for the position of Professor, Welding within the School of Trades. This position will commence in October 2026 at the Welland Campus.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Professor position is responsible for providing academic leadership and developing an effective learning environment for students. The successful candidate should aspire to provide academic excellence in the learning environment, thus enabling our students to achieve success in their careers. This includes designing, revising and updating courses/curriculum; teaching assigned courses; consulting with stakeholders (faculty, community and industry partners); defining course objectives and evaluating student comprehension of objectives; utilize a variety of instruction medium /resources; and provide individualized instruction where necessary. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Required qualifications:

• Certificate of Qualification - 456A Welder, 308A Metal Fitter Fabricator, or 433A Industrial Millwright Mechanic
• Minimum of five years of practical experience with welding functions
• Demonstrated competency in curriculum design, delivery and evaluation at the post secondary level is preferred
• Experience teaching or training adults would be considered an asset
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
• Proficient with standard computer software applications
• Strong commitment to health and safety, with knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety legislation and safe work practices
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, industry and community partners
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor, motivate, and support diverse learners
