Job summary

Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to teach Welding as a part-time faculty member. The role involves delivering welding courses for the Faculty of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship, fostering a supportive learning environment and applying universal design for learning.

Part-time instructors teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules across weekdays and weekends at our Oshawa/Whitby campuses, using hybrid and on-line delivery, and collaborating with program

Qualifications

• Welding Technician or Technology Diploma or Provincially Certified Welder (456a).
• Certificate of Apprenticeship is an asset.
• Red Seal Welder (456a) is considered an asset.
• Minimum five years of recent and relevant work experience.
• Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with UDL and current assessment methodologies would be an asset.
• Experience in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
• Commitment to putting the student experience first.
• Use of current technologies to support learning and grading.
• Proven track record of life-long learning.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders including students, faculty, staff and external partners.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:

Part-time recruitment is ongoing and isdependent on when courses are being taught and the need for faculty to teach.

Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Mondaythrough Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00pm, and Saturday between 8:00am and 6:00pm.

Theresponsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are notlimited to:

• Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
• Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
• Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
• Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
• Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
• Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
• Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The idealcandidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

• Welding Technician or Technology Diploma or Provincially Certified Welder (456a)
• A Certificate of Apprentice would be an asset.
• Red Seal Welder (456a) is considered an asset.
• A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
• Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies would be an asset.
• Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
• Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
• Proven track record of life-long learning.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
• Understanding of the Ontario college system.
