Job summary

Bombardier seeks a Materials & Processes engineer to join the Aerospace M&P team in a hybrid role across Canada. You will lead material qualifications, collaborate with laboratories, and manage specifications for aluminum, steel and titanium structures, ensuring compliance with MIL, ISO and SAE standards.

Ideal candidates hold a 3–5 year background in aerospace production, are fluent in French and English, and can work with Senior Management and multidisciplinary teams to drive process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master in Chemical or Materials Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant aerospace/military production experience.
  • Knowledge of chemical processes for aluminum, steel and titanium structures (electroplating, chemical conversion coating, deoxidizing, anodizing, passivation).
  • Understanding of corrosion mechanisms in aircraft structures and prevention technologies.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (machining, forming, heat treatment, shot peening, surface treatments of aluminum).
  • Knowledge of MIL specs, Federal regulations, ASTM, ISO and SAE specifications.
  • Ability to work in a team and interact with Senior Management, Professionals and Technicians across value streams.
  • Good spoken and written communication in French and English.
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5 and engineering drawing interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • As part of the Materials and Processes (M&P) Engineering team, perform tasks in various Materials and Processes fields, such as chemical processes and non-metallic materials.
  • Lead material qualifications, support supplier obsolescence or changes, part non-conformity issues and production line requests.
  • Lead development of test plans, collaborate with laboratories, analyze results and prepare test reports.
  • Create and review Materials & Processes Specifications and manage changes to Qualified Product Library.
  • Work with Quality and suppliers to review and approve deviations to engineering requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, change and release documentation for modifications/specifications.
  • Perform technical reviews and approval of manufacturing technique sheets, chemical process audits, and process escapes.
  • Lead R&D projects, support redesign activities and investigate material/process impacts of new environmental regulations.

What are your contributions to the team?

  • Create and review Materials & Processes Specifications and manage associated Qualified Product Library changes.
  • Work in collaboration with Quality and external suppliers to review and approve deviations to engineering requirements
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, change and release documentation pursuant to technical engineering modifications/specifications.
  • Perform technical reviews and approval of manufacturing techniques sheets, chemical process compliance audit reports and process escapes
  • Lead R&D projects, support redesigning activities and investigate materials & processes impacts triggered by new environmental regulations.
How to thrive in this role?
  • You hold a Bachelor or Masters degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering from an accredited university.
  • You have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in an aerospace/military production environment.
  • You have knowledge of different chemical processes applicable to aluminum, steel & titanium structures (e.g. electroplating, chemical conversion coating, deoxidizing, anodizing, passivation etc.).
  • You have a good understanding of different corrosion mechanisms in aircraft structures and the available technologies/processes to prevent them.
  • You are knowledgeable about different manufacturing processes such as machining, forming, heat treatment, shot peening and surface treatments of aluminum.
  • You are knowledgeable about military and/or aerospace industry standards such as MIL specs, Federal regulations, ASTM, ISO and SAE specifications.
  • You are adept at solving engineering problems in a production environment and can deal with complex and critical issues independently.
  • You are proactive, result oriented and have a strong sense of responsibility.
  • You must be able to work in a team environment and interact constantly with Senior Management, Professionals and Technicians from other value stream functions (Programs, Supply Chain, Methods, Quality & Suppliers).
  • You recognize and respect differences in individual opinions while working towards meeting common objectives.
  • You have good spoken and written communication skills in both French and English.
  • You have good knowledge of CATIA V5 and Engineering drawing interpretation.
