• Ensure SOPs, GDP and Health Canada regulations are followed; promote safety and quality.
• Perform and coordinate packaging activities and keep packaging areas clean and compliant.

Job Summary

The Packaging Team Lead is responsible for leading daily production activities within the packaging department while working alongside the production team to complete tasks including de-stemming, milling, weighing, rolling, packaging, labelling, and preparing finished cannabis products. Reporting directly to the Production Supervisor, the Team Lead is responsible for ensuring production runs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Production Practices (GPP), Health Canada regulations, and internal quality standards.

The Team Lead provides daily leadership and direction to production employees, coordinates workflow, monitors production performance, supports employee training and development, ensures accurate documentation, and promotes a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Coordination

• Lead and motivate the packaging team by providing daily direction and ensuring employees are productive, engaged, and appropriately trained for the activities they are performing.
• Review On-the-Job Training (OJT) records prior to assigning tasks to ensure employees have received the required training. Where additional training is required, provide instruction and complete the applicable OJT documentation.
• Always review the Production Schedule and Production Checklist prior to starting a production run. When taking over an active production run, review both documents during room handover to ensure a complete understanding of production requirements.
• Maintain open communication with management and production employees, promptly notifying the Production Supervisor of any issues, concerns, production delays, or deviations.
• Provide ongoing feedback to the Production Supervisor regarding employee performance, strengths, development opportunities, and additional training requirements.
• Lead by example by promoting professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Production Oversight

• Monitor packaging and production activities to ensure operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with the Production Schedule.
• Identify production bottlenecks and implement practical solutions to improve workflow and maximize productivity.
• Calculate, monitor, and track hourly production to ensure daily production targets are achieved.
• Ensure production equipment is properly set up and operated in accordance with approved SOPs and Work Instructions.
• Perform reconciliation at the completion of every production run to verify inventory accuracy and outgoing product quantities.

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure all quality control checks are completed according to specification and documented accurately in real time.
• Examine and inspect containers, packaging materials, labels, and products prior to use to ensure packaging specifications are met.
• Ensure compliance with Health Canada regulations, workplace health and safety requirements, company policies, SOPs, and Work Instructions.
• Complete the Daily Line Lead Report documenting employees assigned to the room, production activities performed, production quantities achieved, downtime, and any issues encountered throughout the shift.
• Immediately report and escape any production concerns, quality issues, equipment malfunctions, or situations that do not align with the Production Checklist or approved procedures.
• Ensure all production documentation is completed accurately, legibly, and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

Production Support

• Perform and assist with production activities including de-stemming, milling, weighing, rolling, sealing, capping, labelling, packaging, and preparing finished cannabis products as required to support production demands.
• Lead and coordinate the sanitization and organization of packaging rooms to ensure production areas remain clean, compliant, and ready for operation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve production efficiency, workflow, product quality, and team performance.
