Job Description COBOL / Production Support Engineer (Deposit Systems) Experience (4 to 6 years) Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior COBOL / Production Support Engineer to maintain and optimize our core client deposit platform (Depo). This role balances hands‑on system enhancements with critical production support, including managing nightly batch processing and resolving application incidents. The ideal candidate possesses strong legacy system expertise in COBOL, Control‑M enterprise job scheduling, and Linux shell scripting / OpenVMS DCL. Because this role supports a core deposit platform, a solid foundational understanding of banking and accounting principles is essential for validating interest calculations, account balances, and financial statements.

  • COBOL Programming: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in writing, optimizing, and debugging COBOL code.
  • Scripting Capabilities: Advanced Linux shell scripting and environment automation skills; experience with OpenVMS DCL is highly preferred.
  • Job Scheduling: Hands‑on operational experience managing and troubleshooting enterprise batch windows using Control‑M (or a comparable scheduler).
  • Database Skills: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL, database schemas, and SQL query construction.
  • Domain Knowledge & Experience: Banking & Accounting: Foundational knowledge of basic banking and accounting principles (e.g., debits/credits, general ledger postings, interest accruals, and transaction balances).
  • Operating Systems: Direct experience working within Linux/Unix production environments; experience with the OpenVMS operating system is a strong asset.
  • SDLC & Process Tools: Proven familiarity with standard Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies, change control procedures, and daily operational proficiency with Jira.
  • Production Support & Batch Monitoring: Provide comprehensive production support for the Depo platform. Support the nightly batch schedule on an on‑call rotation basis using Control‑M.
  • Incident Resolution & Troubleshooting: Investigate, diagnose, and resolve technical issues, failed batch jobs, and processing anomalies occurring in the batch.
  • User Support & Data Extraction: Address user inquiries regarding application functionality, including account and interest statements. Extract data on balances, accounts, and transactions.
  • Engineering & Enhancements: Design and develop system enhancements, ad‑hoc requests, and robust environment scripts using Linux shell and OpenVMS DCL.
  • Analysis & Documentation: Perform analysis for system upgrades. Provide development/testing estimates, and author technical design specifications and application documentation.
  • Testing & Release Coordination: Execute integrated testing with related applications. Create and manage formal change requests (CR) following corporate SDLC guidelines.
  • Process & Compliance: Maintain real‑time task tracking in Jira. Provide daily updates to management. Adhere strictly to institutional client policies and mandatory training timelines.
