Job summary

Bimbo Canada in Vaughan, Ontario is seeking a shift supervisor to lead hourly associates in a multi-shift, unionized bakery environment. You will train staff, drive safety and quality initiatives, and collaborate with union representatives to maintain high standards.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized food/packaged goods setting, with strong communication skills and knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and OH&S requirements.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will possess a relevant post-secondary education.
  • 3–5 years in supervisory experience with some experience in a unionized facility.
  • Previous experience in a unionized food, dairy, beverage or packaged goods industry is a definite asset.
  • Experience with bread, buns, muffin, or tortilla production is highly valued.
  • Superior communication skills in a multi-cultural environment and the ability to deal with a variety of front-line industrial relations issues.
  • Takes initiative and exercises good judgment in day-to-day business decisions.
  • Strong leadership skills and knowledge of progressive discipline and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to hourly associates, including training and performance management.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement programs to achieve productivity improvements.
  • Attend meetings with the Union and human resources as required.
  • Oversee product quality and address quality-related CAPAs.
  • Manage safety responsibilities and ensure compliance with OHSA and GMPs.
  • Schedule production shifts in a multi-shift unionized environment.
  • Conduct accident investigations and WSIB case management.
  • Work cross-functionally to improve product quality and reduce waste.

Job description

Afternoon shift, with flexibility to support day and night shifts based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to hourly associates. This includes training associates, validating training booklets and managing the performance of your direct reports.
  • Involvement and leadership in Continuous Improvement Programs to achieve productivity improvements.
  • Follow up on actionable items with the team.
  • Facilitate LOTO training.
  • Take lead in SWP and risk assessments.
  • Oversee product quality and take proactive steps in managing the complaints and addressing quality related CAPAs (Corrective Action Plans).
  • Attend meetings with the Union, hourly associates and Human relations when required.
  • Make recommendations regarding line improvements.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure that you and your team are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, JHSC recommendations, MOL work orders, Company Safety rules and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Provide performance management counseling and/or progressive discipline in a timely fashion when required.
  • Participate in monthly safety/crew talks, weekly Safety Interactions, Hazard IDs and Workplace Inspections.
  • Ensure execution of sensory evaluations, moles (Oven Thermal Profiling), Systematic Supervisions and their next steps.
  • Take ownership of the GB Connected usage per shift (Downtime classification, Dough, FG and Waste Recording).
  • Take initiative and exercise good judgment in day-to-day business decisions.
  • Learn, develop and exhibit behaviors consistent with the priorities of safety, quality and performance.
  • Schedule associates and production shifts with a multi-shift unionized environment.
  • Conduct and assist in accident investigation and take an active role in WSIB case management and ensuring early and safe return of injured workers to modified and/or productive duties. Follow up with the root cause that are identified from the incident that occurred.
  • Work with cross-functional departments to maintain and improve product quality standards, while reducing plant waste and improving on production efficiency.
  • Be flexible, capable and willing to be “hands on” to perform any other technical or production-related task, as the circumstances require.
  • Lead execution of risk assessments to reduce safety risks in respective areas.
  • Review and analyze product compliance according to the quality specifications.
  • Must be knowledgeable and be able to follow GMPs, Food Safety and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Control direct labour hours through Kronos verification.
  • Line coverage as needed.
  • Cover vacation gaps in the event of an emergency.
Experience & Education

The annual salary range for applicants is: $59,625 - $88,000, which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
