Job summary

Bimbo Canada in Alberta is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead millwrights and electricians in a unionized, fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate holds a licensed millwright or electrician ticket or a relevant bachelor’s degree, with 3+ years in a maintenance leadership role in manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Trade certification as a Licensed Millwright or Licensed Electrician or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3+ years as a maintenance manager in unionized, automated manufacturing.
  • Experience in food/beverage packaging is an asset.
  • PLC troubleshooting and programming is an asset.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with a safety-focused mindset.

Hiring Requirements

The Maintenance Manager will lead and develop a team of millwrights and electricians in a unionized manufacturing environment. This role requires a proactive leader who can inspire performance, foster collaboration, and maintain a strong culture of safety and compliance (Life-Saving Rules). Success in this position demands exceptional communication skills, solid technical knowledge, and the ability to drive operational excellence through effective planning, organization, and team development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure efficient operation of plant equipment and facility services with a focus on safety, cost control, and product quality.
  • Maintain clear communication with all departments to address production requirements and equipment issues; schedule flexibility is required based on business needs.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Planner and Parts Coordinator to implement the right maintenance strategy and ensure successful execution.
  • Transform the maintenance culture from reactive to proactive through strong leadership, accountability, associate development, and reliability-focused maintenance practices.
  • Demonstrate ownership and accountability for the maintenance budget, including responsible cost management and alignment with operational priorities.
  • Assess and maintain the adequacy of the maintenance team’s skill set.
  • Responsible for managing associates’ performance and training needs effectively.
  • Build and foster positive union and associate relations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and reduce costs.
  • Manage plant projects involving internal teams and external contractors.
  • Resolve associate issues in compliance with the collective agreement.
  • Support implementation of capital projects and plan preventive maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to GMP, Food Safety, and Health & Safety standards.

Experience & Education
  • The ideal candidate must have a trade certification as a Licensed Millwright or Licensed Electrician or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Preference for candidates with a post-secondary education or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3+ years as a maintenance manager in a unionized, highly automated, fast-paced manufacturing facility.
  • Experience in the food, beverage, or packaged goods industry is an asset.
  • Competence in PLC for troubleshooting and programming is an asset.
  • Experience with industrial refrigeration systems is an asset. (ammonia, glycol, etc.)
  • Consistently deliver measurable improvements in workplace safety by driving continuous compliance initiatives and fostering a culture of proactive risk mitigation.
  • Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting, adjusting, or repairing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of work orders and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience with HACCP, Continuous Improvement Processes, Project Management and Lean manufacturing would be an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CMMS and ERP systems.
  • Ability to develop and foster a problem‑solving, results‑driven team.
  • Able to learn continuously; adaptability and regulatory understanding are critical assets.

The annual salary range for applicants is: $100,000 -$130,000 which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
