Job summary

Bimbo Canada is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the plant maintenance team in a fast-paced, unionized bakery environment. You will oversee supervisors, ensure OHSA/Worksafe BC compliance, and drive the Preventative Maintenance program to keep equipment operating at peak performance.

The role requires strong leadership, budgeting experience, and the ability to coordinate capital projects, train staff, and maintain positive union relations while improving safety and reducing downtime.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent preferred; trade certification acceptable.
  • 8+ years maintenance in a unionized, automated facility with 5+ years in management.
  • Food/beverage industry experience is a plus; CFIA/HACCP exposure is beneficial.
  • Proficient in PLC troubleshooting and programming.
  • Strong knowledge of Worksafe BC and OSHA requirements.
  • Budgeting and cost control experience.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • The Maintenance Manager will direct all activities of the plant maintenance team, including oversite over Maintenance Supervisors, administrators and skilled trades, in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Ensure associate safety and overall compliance to the OHSA and Worksafe BC requirements.
  • Manage Preventative Maintenance Program, ensuring effective PMs for all equipment in the bakery.
  • This position requires initiative, leadership, excellent communication skills, and confidence regarding your technical and organizational talents.
  • Continuously improve the bakery maintenance program to reduce downtime and improve overall maintenance costs.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of plant equipment and services, involving cost control, safety, and product quality.
  • Understand production requirements and day-to-day equipment operating issues by ensuring open and effective communications with all other departments.
  • Ensure scheduling of work orders in Maximo done correctly by team assessing associate training needs and performance.
  • Develop, lead and maintain capable and effective associates in all areas of the maintenance function.
  • Maintain a positive union and associate relations environment.
  • Oversee and direct plant projects that involve our associates or outside contractors.
  • Effectively handle associate issues in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Assist with the implementation of capital projects.
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor of Engineering, or equivalent, preferred, or a trade certification as a Licensed Millwright or Licensed Electrician, with related experience or a degree in engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of 8 + years of maintenance experienced in a unionized, strongly automated, fast paced manufacturing facility, with 5+ years in management.
  • Food, beverage or packaged goods industry is a definite asset.
  • Competence in PLC for troubleshooting and programming change would be an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of Worksafe BC and OSHA requirements.
  • Proven track record of compliance and continuous improvement in improving safety in the workplace.
  • Ability to train Direct Reports.
  • Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting, adjusting or repairing of equipment.
  • Working knowledge of work orders and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience with food processing, CFIA, HACCP, and Continuous Improvement Process would be an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as project management skills.
  • Ability to develop and foster a results-driven team.
  • Experience in working with operational budgets.
  • Knowledge of MS Office.
  • Flexibility to work alternating shifts including weekends and holidays.

The annual salary range for applicants is: $120,000 - $145,000 , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
